| | Landline Phone
I am about to order a cable/internet package and found a good deal with Cablecom that includes cable, internet, and free calls to 30+ countries on the land line phone (99chf/month). http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/b2c/ko...ower_combi.htm
I haven't had a landline phone in years, even before i moved to Switzerland. My questions:
1. where would i buy a simple cordless landline phone?
2. Does anyone feel that having a landline phone is worth it? I don't often call home now (US) because of the cost so maybe if i had the option i would call more often. I am not a frequent skyper.

2. Yes but opt for Skype when you can. Landlines are a blessing when you need to phone customer services, companies etc. (or I suppose you could use the work phone for that).

If you really do not want to have a landline than I believe they have some econ service where they block your line for voice calls and you still get tv and DSL.

Doesn't seem necessary to have a landline with cablecom and thats the packages i am looking at. Although i am sure i could use it if i pay for it i am not sure the additional 30chf per month is worth it, just trying to get opinions. However, with the Power Combi there is no initial fee that all the other packages have.
Mimi, i often use work phone for calls as such but maybe i should stop! |

The only reason, I have a Phone is, that I need a number, so people can call me. All my outgoing calls go through Voip-buster for Landline numbers, or Skype, when the other party also has it. My yearly Phone costs are ca. €20, plus the occasional use of the mobile, which I try to keep at a minimum.
The only downside is, that I can not call 08xx numbers through Voip.

If you need to call the States why don't you buy a VOIP ATA (like the Linksys PAP2G) and configure a VOIP service with an american number? So that also your friends/relatives won't waste money by calling you abroad. Just an idea. As for the Cordless phone.. try Fust, Interdiscount, Mediamarkt or Migros Electronics (or even better, just go on www.toppreise.ch and pick one up from there).
