English language TV

Hi all - just wondering about getting some english language TV. So far the options I've seen are cablecom or get a dish and go with the F2A stuff to get BBCs and ITVs.

We're giong to be getting cable B/B into the house, and I see a package which is 79 chf with cablecom for the 120 channel package & a 50MB B/B line. Assuming the B/B is costing say 50 a month, that means TV is about 30 a month....

About satellite - I have one at home which I could bring, with an old skybox which I cuold use as a decoder too, so would be setup to get free to air. But are there any other options apart rfom this, like to get more channels than this do people know?

Re: English language TV

Swisscom TV (currently being discussed on another thread) will give you BBC1,2,3,4, ITV1,2,3,4, Channel 4, Film 4, Five, BBC World News, BBC HD, Sky News, CNN and various other news channels that I have never bothered to look at. No RTE though...

You can record programmes if you go for the slightly more expensive "Plus" option.

TV, landline and internet package costs 111 CHF a month, phone calls on top of that.

Re: English language TV

I'm just wondering... with Swisscom TV, do we get some American channels such as ABC Family, FOX, NBC, CBS ?

If not, what is the possibility to get them ?

Re: English language TV

Actually even with the Swisscom premium movies and series channels (SyFy, MGM, 13th Street, Fox, and some others) they are ONLY in German, without Dual audio channel.

SyFy is on cablecom, both HD and regular. HD comes with dual language German and English Dolby. Don't know about regular def, it never used to have an english language option, maybe it does now.

Good to get my stargate or BG fix occasionaly, I also watch the original movies, but mostly just for laughs.

EDIT: They do carry Fox too, but I never see anything interesting on there.

Re: English language TV

For American series in general keep an eye on the 3 Swiss second channels (SF2, TSR2 and TSI2). They run quite a lot and usually in 2 channel.

I remember noticing Stargate on one of the English FTA channels recently - probably one of the ITVs or five. Think you need a dish for those, though.

Re: English language TV

All the english language channels that Swisscom, Cablecom, etc. offer in their TV packages are taken from satellite. If you set up a sat dish you can get mostly the same stuff for free, as long as your apartment faces south with a clear view of the sky.

No American channels are broadcast over Europe, with the exception of a select few channels, like ESPN America, and FOX News, TBN, CNN,...but not the "major networks" like NBC, CBS, ABC with all the "prime-time" stuff, forget about that.... well, some current series are shown on AFN, but decoders are only available to US military/gov't.

These are in generally in English with cablecom. There's an option to select the language in the manu.

I miss the Australian ACB and SBS with shows like chaser's war on everything being absolute the height of Australian television

I love how they always used to prank Anna Coren and Stan Grant.. Funny those 2 now work for CNN

They offer packages as follows:

2) TV Basic (19chf)- TV Basic

I'd like to know does this packge have english CNN or BBC channels?

Hoping for answers.

Thanks.

Re: English language TV

Jerry, I have Vivo Casa and I'm quite happy with it. I don't think we have CNN, but we certainly have several BBC stations.

You can check WHICH ones are available to your postal code here: http://eorderspub.sso.bluewin.ch/tri...lsEnterZipCode
