Cablecom up and running on arrival day?

Hello,
I move to Lausanne on Saturday August 6. My apartment is cabled. I want to get the upc cablecom power combo. Is there a way I can have it up and running on the day I will arrive? Don't they have to send me the hardware (mediabox receiver, WLAN modem, etc.) in advance? I tried calling them at 0800 464 646 but I am calling from Canada and it does not work. I tried signing up using their online tool but I need to fill a required field with a Swiss phone number (which I don't have). I really really want to have an internet connection as soon as I arrive. I suppose I can ask my landlord permission for putting down his phone number.

Question: from the moment I place an order online, how long does it take for the hardware to arrive at the apartment?
Comments? Suggestions?
Thanks.
Claude

Did you try adding the international calling code for Switzerland before the 0800? (ie: 0041-800-464-646)?

What about e-mailing them?

I really don't know if you can have it up and running before or the day you get here. If you need it urgently, the day you arrive you can go to a Cablecom service point and tell them your ugrency, and they can probably give you a modem there and activate your line.

You could also get a pre-paid mobile data stick from (eg) Swisscom, Sunrise, Orange to use immediately until you get a fixed-line connection.

Took me about a week from order till package with modem was at home.

But why don't you write them if telephone fails and it is really important? Email or snail mail?

not a chance, you need to be around for the cable modem etc to be delivered for a start. and if no one has had cable in your apartment before you then an electrician has to come out and check the line, again someone needs to be there for that.

I do know that the apartment is already cabled. No problem there. As for the delivery, I may have the perfect solution. I just got an email from the owners of the apartment. Their present tenants are leaving at the end of June. The owners will be spending their vacations in Lausanne and they will be occupying the apartment until our arrival in early August! I am going to ask them if they can be there for the upc-cablecom delivery.

Normally you have to collect the hardware from the nearest post office.
You would receive a slip in your post box.Take this to the post office with ID and collect the hardware.
Then everything should work when you connect it all up.Just follow some
simple instructions.
Make sure the post box has your name on it before you order the equipment.

As far as I know 0800 numbers are free call numbers so the above suggestion won't work.

This is only the case if no-one is home when the post attempts to deliver it.

doesn't matter if the apartment is cabled, if no one has used it before, recently, then its still an electrician out job. they have to test the socket in the apartment and the line into the building.
