So far it's been an absolute pleasure using this phone, it has all the goodies one needs nowadays in a smartphone. Ok, the only down side is that it doen't have built in WI-FI, however in a couple of weeks time you will now be able to purchase a Mini SD WiFi card for all compatible devices....

One of the handiest tools I've got on it is the SBB (Hafas) Swiss trains timetable. A mini database that allows you to search for any of the many train stations in Switzerland, giving you all current connections.

I'm now looking to get hold of the Zurich Trams timetable (ZVV) but it's proving to be a little more difficult than I thought.

Anyone have it or something like it perhaps?

If you're looking for the above mentioned SBB timetable it’s available for free download at - http://updates.sbb.ch/sbb/update.exe/HAFASWIN-SBB-X07-CE+0+ENG

I thought I'd start this thread to perhaps get a little 'Smartphone Swiss apps' swap going. If anyone out there has an interesting bit of software to share (preferably something that will come in handy here in Switzerland - like the ZVV trams timetables) then post a small description of it and where to find it on the net and then we can all benifit.....

Re: Smartphones - Swiss Applications?

I got a HTC Trinity from the UK, with GPS + Wi-Fi, good for finding Basel bars, or not if you can't get a GPS Fix.

In seriousness I've had no issue with wi-fi browsing or net in general it read's pdfs, word docs etc etc, so I have the tram times etc and google maps works, but costs if you use 3G GPRS connections.

Btw if you don't have a reasonable amount of german the Basel tram pdf's are a nightmare to find. (Either that or I'm dumb)

Now to unlock the damn thing

Yeah, I've decided only to browse when either hooked up to my machine at home or at the office and when I have my mini SD WiFi card at any free WiFi locations in Zurich. The 3G option is a little expensive to be honest...

A mate of mine is looking at developing a small app for the Zurich Tram timetables, the pdf version is ok, but it gets messy trying to navigate through the map in a hurry, best solution would be a search tool..

Here a couple of good links for software :

Re: Smartphones - Swiss Applications?

I have one of those phones and the best App I have downloaded is Yahoo Go.

http://uk.mobile.yahoo.com/go/

If you use any yahoo applications then this is excellent. Its a seperate app that sits on your phone and does lots of useful things in a very easy, intuitive manner. You can check your yahoo email, upload photos to your flickr account, check share prices, check traffic directions, yahoo maps, the news etc.

If you mean the SBB timetable then -
Quote:
1. The market leader is currently the operating system "Symbian OS". At the moment we are developing a HAFAS version for this operating system. HAFAS for "Symbian OS" is planned to run on Series 60, Series 80 (Nokia Communicator) and UIQ devices (User interface for Quartz).
Furthermore, personal timetables can be downloaded with HAFAS-J2ME (see HAFAS-Print2Web).
this is from the developers website - http://www.hacon.de/hafas_e/faq.shtml

Best would be to check out : http://www.hacon.de/hafas_e/mobil.shtml
