| | Mobile internet (for laptop, not phone)
Starting a new thread as the previous one on this subject is old and well used.
Have read the masses of info re this.....and still not sure what's best. Information overload! I am back in CH for the next 5 weeks and may need a portable connection for my laptop - NOT IPHONE - and wonder if anyone has a good recommendation for prepaid, definitely no contract. In the UK I get 1gb for 10.00 pounds a month which I am happy with. I have a dongle already so could just go for a SIM, if that is possible/feasible.
Something comparable to the above price here would be nice although I do know where I am!
Thanks! |

Thanks! | | | | | yeah - 10 pound for one gb is not gonna happen here. Swisscom has the gig for 39 fr. on prepay. that's the cheapest offer for 1gb AFAIK.
Sunrise has 250mb for 7.50.-

That's what I thought! Thankfully, I was pleased to find that where I am staying has wifi so I am happy. Can spend those extra chfs on some extra chocolate or something!! |

My situation is very similar to pamela16's, except that I will be staying for six weeks rather than five
SwissCom is the only reasonable service provider for me, as only they seem to have high speed access in the remote villages where I will be staying, and surfing with EDGE is painful | Quote: | | | | | Swisscom has the gig for 39 fr. on prepay. that's the cheapest offer for 1gb AFAIK. | | | | | I am curious about the gig for CHF 39 option; the only SwissCom prepay option that I could find is CHF 7.50 per day (unlimited data): Mobile Unlimited tariffs. Since I have an unlimited service at home I unfortunately have absolutely no idea how much data I consume. M-Budget Mobile Internet charge CHF 0.10 per Mbyte, this may be attractive for someone who wants to check their email, but is likely to be very expensive for any real surfing.

The other option I'd thought of was dragging the laptop off to Starbuck's for a coffee drinking session. I did that just before I left in March, and it's fine for a short stay but 6 weeks would be a bit of a pain. So glad my current situation worked out OK in the end.
Definitely no wifi where you're staying?
Good luck with your final choice, and have a good time while you're back in CH. |

Hello,
I'm going to Zurich for 2 months i will need internet too so i'm on the same situation: i would like to get internet but i didn't want any contract.
I tried to find the option you mentioned - gig for 39 fr. on prepay - but i couldn't find it. Can you please tell me the url or suggest any other options?
Thank you!

It's actually 39 Fr. for 2gb, not for 1. You have to buy a Natel Easy Liberty Uno Prepaid card and book the 2gb data package for it. AFAIK, you'll have to re-purchase the data package once the 30 days are up or the 2gb have been used up. Included volume doesn't roll over.

Hi dawiz,
I searched for the option you suggested but, from what I understood, that's for mobile phones.
I need internet for my laptop.
Thanks.

Thanks. | | | | | and what keeps you from sticking the SIM in your laptop / MiFi / 3G USB modem? I've been using this package in my notebook for almost a year now, it works just fine.

I do not seem to be able to find out how exactly I purchase the card without an attached phone. Do I just walk into a SwissCom shop (will be in Sion tomorrow) and buy the card plus data package, no questions asked about the phone I will put the card in?
And does "locked card" affect how it will (or will not) work in my USB stick?

Sunrise is the cheapest- it cost me 5 CHF per day about 3 months ago and I am on a remote village so on EDGE. Surfing was ok, not v fast but durable could even do some skype (mainly voice chat) with some interruptions...
Luckily have cable/ethernt internet from sunrise now with an extra mobile dongle (at 3 CHF/per day in case I travel- not bad)..

the important thing is that your USB stick is unlocked, of course. also, you might have to stick your prepaid sim in a phone to charge the card with the 39 fr necessary for the data package and to boom the package, as that is normally done via SMS.

Last year we were initially using a Swisscom dongle at around 7.50 a day. then changed to Orange as only 5 a day. the day starts from after mid-night and finished at mid-night on the day. If you dont use one day, you dont pay. Usually pick up a prepaid slip from supermarket for 30chf, but believe you can get lower/higher amounts. Depending where you are, you might need to check the reception will be good for whatever network you choose.
