A colleague of mine wants to buy a SIM-free iPhone 4 (yes, I tried to talk him out of it, to no avail :-)

digitec has them for about 10% less than Apple - but apparently, digitec sells imported phones. Does anyone know if Apple will honor the warranty for such phones?

AFAIK, Digitec is an authorised Apple reseller.

Apple sells phones that are intended an localized for the Swiss market, while Digitec sells phones they imported from Italy (and that are intended for the Italian market). Obviously, except for the Italian "getting started guide", those phones are identical to the ones sold by Apple here. However, in the past, Apple has refused to service phones that were imported from abroad.

EIther Apple CH will take on the Digitec repair, or Digitec send it to Apple CH who will repair. Either way, it will be repaired via the local service.

Yes, digitec WILL honour the warranty.

I bought a German O2 Palm pre from digitec, which started giving problem after 18 months (2 yr warranty). As they couldnot get the problem fixed, they offered me a better phone (Since same mobile was outdated) OR considerable discount on the upcoming Palm/HP Pre 3.

What I meant was: will Apple honor the warranty if I walk in to one of their stores with an iPhone I bought from Digitec.

Anyway, he also asked Digitec directly and he was told that the phones carry the official Apple warranty, so everything is fine.
