Switching from Swisscom to Sunrise Day 2 - Did I miss something?

My girlfriend and I recently switched from Swisscom DSL to Sunrise because they cut her a nice deal when she got her iPhone a couple of months ago. The date of internet switch-over came on Monday the 4th, and we've had no internet at the apartment since then.

There are a few questions I've tried to have answered both by calling Sunrise and by going to a Sunrise store, but at both ends they have been very unhelpful.

1) Do I need a new or Sunrise-specific modem/router, or can I continue using the Swisscom modem/router for the time being?

2) Is there a procedure I need to follow to get Sunrise internet working here? When I login to the router configuration page it tells me that it sees the internet, but I can't connect from my computer or any other wireless devices I have.

If any of you have experience making this switch I would vastly appreciate your help. Thanks!

Re: Switching from Swisscom to Sunrise Day 2 - Did I miss something?

I made a similar switch very recently.

Sunrise is complete shit.

Almost certainly you're using a VDSL modem from Swisscom - you'll need an ADSL ANNEX A modem to run sunrise.

I recently bought a top of the line Fritz!box 7390 router here to cope with any configuration bullshit providers could possibly throw at me but somehow sunrise have managed to stop the router being used to hook up my phones (which is a nice bonus with a FRitz!box).

Re: Switching from Swisscom to Sunrise Day 2 - Did I miss something?

I have a "Centro Grande" router/modem from Swisscom and the literature I can find indicates that it's compatible with ADSL and VDSL. The router configuration detects the line type as "ADSL2+".

Switched a couple of years ago now (from Tele2) and it was pretty well seamless. Just needed to enter the Sunrise ID/password to the modem and everything worked.

Re: Switching from Swisscom to Sunrise Day 2 - Did I miss something?

Finally managed to get somewhere with Sunrise customer service:

I need their modem. It's part of the package we ordered when my girlfriend got her iPhone, but for some reason Sunrise never shipped us the modem so they are doing that today. They say it will arrive next week - probably.

In the meantime I'm using the USB mobile internet stick they sent us, though the documentation says its costing me CHF3.50/day after our internet is activated. Next time I call I will see if they will credit us CHF3.50/day until the modem arrives to cover their screwup.

You don't *need* a Sunrise modem. That's a line they peddle to get more money out of you. Basically, they will not assist with installation of a modem that is not one you bought off them. Another will still work and so long as you are fairly technologically competent it is not hard to set up. Sunrise are sneeky. I've been with them since October. Not very impressed with their customer service.

Re: Switching from Swisscom to Sunrise Day 2 - Did I miss something?

Sunrise are rapidly becoming the new Cablecom as far as service goes. I had to contact Sunrise by phone recently and they told me to go to a Sunrise store to sort out the problem.

When I asked where my nearest one was, Sunrise told me they were a call centre in Germany and had no idea. When I asked why they suggested it, the woman hung up on me.

I am now no longer with Sunrise...

I think Sunrise has always been much worse than Cablecom in terms of customer service.

I wanted to switch once from Swisscom to Sunrise because they had a really good deal. We called them to ask some questions and got one answer. Then we went into the shop and got a different answer to the same question. Then someone walked by in the shop, and gave us a 3rd answer, so the 2 people in the shop were contradicting each other, as well as the guy on the phone.

Finally, we ended up with no internet or telephone service for a few days. We went back to the Swisscom shop and they reactivated our service and had us back online the same day.

I will never recommend Sunrise to anybody.

I'd guess that person was simply being an a*****e. Sunrise's call-center is in Bienne, Switzerland.

Swisscom's is in Tägerwilen, Switzerland, although they predominantly employ people from nearby Germany there.

I have to say that customer service for telcos here is going down the drain rapidly, although the telcos have been raising the prices again over the last year or so (subscriptions have become a lot more expensive - the companies tend to include stuff nobody ever needs and say that's why they had to raise the prices for the whole packages). After what I've gone through with Swisscom, I really don't know which one of those suckers I should choose. I guess I'll just be going with the cheapest one now, since CS is equally bad for all of them.

Re: Switching from Swisscom to Sunrise Day 2 - Did I miss something?

for my prepaid mobile use i haven't had any problems with sunrise for over 6 years now. but things get hairy when it comes to cancellation of contracts. even if its for a service they have never been providing. the very reason i want to sell a broadband mobile internet modem from them.
i figured out too, that their customer 'advisors' aren't trained well replying nonsense and voicing different opinions when being asked the same question. "all you need is a sunrise"^^ Song: Sunrise - Brandon Heath

Re: Switching from Swisscom to Sunrise Day 2 - Did I miss something?

i'm with Sunrise.

I had lot of problems at the beginning (delays, line activation, router not received immediately ...).
But once it was done, it is ok-
They used to be the cheapest, I dont know now.

I know Swisscom for the mobile and they are expensive and terrible terrible customer service.

Sunrise probably not too good as well but once you really setup you never have to call them.

For me the big blocking problem is their big enormous crap "router" Zyxel P-660RU-T1 v2.

The thing is old, old, old. Impossible to make it as a "passthrough", interface is buggy and crashes, etc... Even the port forwarding is giving crappy results.

(yes I have the latest firmware, I did hard reset on the device, I know how to configure, blablabla).

Re: Switching from Swisscom to Sunrise Day 2 - Did I miss something?

I posted a little about this in the other Sunrise thread, but seeing as I started this one I thought I would follow-up.

As far as customer service goes, it took three days of calls to customer service for the agent (who yells at me when I don't understand his garbled English) to determine that they forgot to send me the router we were entitled to as part of our contract.

So after a week of no internet it arrives, and let me tell you the thing is dodgy: Zyxel P-660HN-F1Z. No doubt the kind of hardware that retails CHF250 in Switzerland and $25 in the US.

Internet here goes out consistently. Sometimes for 2-3 minutes at a time I can't do anything, load anything, all my connections drop. Other times the connection quality is just poor. Skype calls have gone way downhill since we were Swisscom customers a month ago.

Sometimes when net is out or just crap, I try to connect to the router configuration page, and it either lags or fails. This should never, ever happen obviously so I chalked it up to a wireless issue. However, I still have lots of VoIP problems while wired in, and despite hours of tweaking I haven't yet figured out how to make wireless less fickle.

And if all I was doing over the net was idle browsing and email it would be one thing, but I rely on my Skype connection to help support myself through online tutoring.

All in all, really disappointed in Sunrise.

Re: Switching from Swisscom to Sunrise Day 2 - Did I miss something?

My sunrise internet didnt work recently. After 2 hours of trouble shooting, the technican told me that my modem is damaged. They said they need to change my modem, but the modem costs 79CHF unless I sign a contract extension form then it becomes 49CHF (apparently this is their offer when customer come to renew their contract, but nobody mentioned it when I renewed my contact last Nov.)

Anyway, the whole procedure from sending the form till I receive the modem took more than 2 weeks. I was using the Swisscom wireless stick everyday (cost 7.9CHF per day) to cover the internet.

I called them trying to argue a bit that they should give me some refund for the days without internet. Their guy either hung my phone or switch me to some music. So I gave up.

Made a mistake as I was with Cablecom and switched because they gave me a good discount but found its a pain. Speed is slow.
