Android or Iphone?

Guys

I am using Iphone 3GS for last 2 years and I am quite happy with the phone and overall offering. Now is the time for the renewal and in last 2 years Google has catch up with apple big time. so now I am in the dilemma which one to buy.

The only problem is that if I buy Iphone right now then I'll end up having 4 and I am sure the day phone arrives, apple will announce the new one. On the other hand the renewal deals offered by Orange is about same for the android. they are not cheaper.

Any suggestions or tips?

Re: Android or Iphone?

Can I ask Orange to extend the contract only for 3 months? I suppose you can extend the contract for 12 months only. I'll ask them for this possibility

Re: Android or Iphone?

New Androids pop up every month, if obsolescence is a concern, stick with Apple.

New phones are released almost every day - you'll always have an obsolete phone, in that respect.

I personally wouldn't go for an iPhone 4 at this time, because Apple will be releasing the next iteration within the next 3 months or so.

If you have to renew now (e.g. because your contract is rolling over right now), go for a Samsung Galaxy S II - it's the best Android phone you can get at this time and (in my opinion) runs circles around the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 5 with the new iOS, a (hopefully) bigger screen and a faster processor will probably close the gap again.

I have the Galaxy S II and it's a great phone. Will you be able to live and be happy with that for a year, even though the iPhone 5 will be released later this year? Heck yeah.

Re: Android or Iphone?

I would go with the iPhone 4. The new release of iOS looks quite promising, and in connection with iCloud it will close many gaps that Android opened.

why don't you ask and report back. if they can't do it, get the samsung galaxy sII as that is a popular phone, then you can sell it and use the funds towards the iphone5 when it comes out.

yupp, that way you can still decide whether to get the iPhone 5 or now, when it comes out.

The SGS II has already gone through some price cuts, so it's unlikely it'll lose a lot of money by September.

The fact that you can only extend / cancel your contract every 12 months is so retarded, i cant believe CH customers accept that..

you can extend your contract pretty much anytime, you just can't cancel without paying a penalty, the same as just about every other country in the world that subsides handsets on contracts.

Re: Android or Iphone?

They agreed that I can order the new phone when it comes. currently I can be on a 12 months contract on which they will give me CHF 15 / Mt off on current plan till I order the enw phone (as I don't have any phone in the plan now).

I think I'll wait for Iphone. The only other phone I am willing to consider is Android on a Samsung. How are HTCs doing these days?

make sure you get that in writing. I can only speak for Swisscom - but they tend to forget what they told you and then will NOT let you have a phone at the renewal price.

Re: Android or Iphone?

It is a simple question of open or closed OS. more (Android) or less(iOS) control over what you have. one advantage is security which I will give toiOS but then that comes with control of content.

I would personally go with Android, especially now that we have phones withdual-core processors with 512+RAM (in some phones up to 1GB) and SD cards up to 32GB and let us not forgetthe apps and open source.

the iPhone is too closed for my taste and limited option when it comes tosize and keyboard (built-in or not) ... etc. Here is an old comparison if youare interested: http://www.redmondpie.com/android-2.2-vs-iphone-4.0-vs-windows-phone-7/

I think HTC is doing great, have a look at one of the latest phones, the HTC Evo 3D

Whether a phone's OS is open or closed probably wouldn't mean much to anyone other than perhaps developers right?

I'd always go for iPhone. Apple make their hardware & interfaces very, very user-friendly.

not really, it means there will be lots of free apps for an open system, but also a lot more junk apps

Android is suffering at the moment as developers aren't making money from it, whereas they are on iphone, rumour has it android is going to move over to an apple type model.
