| | Anybody actually brought US TV (NTSC) and did it work in CH (PAL) ?
I see lots of forums on this website, where people are saying that you need only electricity converter and TV will work.
But when I read more from different sources looks like TV from USA with NTSC system will not work with PAL system.
You need an NTSC /PAL adapter or converter or just a multi-system TV.
Did anybody actually made US tv work in CH without any NTSC/PAL converters?
Thank you!

Inna | | | | | It will work with an adapter but at a loss in quality, TV's are dirt cheap today so I cant see any real motivation.

Inna | | | | | Check the specs of your TV, but most of them are NTSC only and you will need a converter. I regret bringing my US TV as the loss of quality is high.

I found this website, http://www.world-import.com/Com_Worl..._Converter.htm
and they are saying that the quality will be the same, other adaptors, that are $20-$50 will not deliver the same quality, but their adaptor, for $160 will. Do you know anything about it?

Pal / NTSC conversions are crap at best, when 'Dallas' was standard converted rather than pal mastered it was very obvious in the uk 25 years ago, & that was the best conversion that could be done, not a crappy home converter.

For a few thousand, you can get a high-quality converter these days!
Upsample to 300 Hz (or some multiple), and Bob's your uncle (600 if doing film).

Otherwise, you have a lovely console for your U.S. peripherals... |

Standard conversions done in sd suck regardless , 24p hd converts very nicely however HD is neither PAL or NTSC. Going to 100 hz or more just will make film look like video, best to avoid such features IMHO

NTSC/PAL issue is only relevant if you are getting over the air signal. If you have cable, your cable box will have HDMI output, that makes this discussion irrelevant provided that your TV has HDMI input. | Quote: | | | | | I see lots of forums on this website, where people are saying that you need only electricity converter and TV will work.

rather than bear the hassle of trying to make my TV work without blowing it up (because I would truly mourn the loss of the 48" Plasma I paid $3k for) I went to Media Markt and bought a not-as-big LED TV for 800CHF and had instant gratification.
I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the US Plasma though. Shipping it back to gift to mom and dad is going to cost more than the TV did.
