From today iPlayer is available in Switzerland, but only as an iPad/iPhone app.

The cost is CHF 9/month. Though the app is free and there are some free shows...

Grab a VPN, and BBC iPlayer is accessible now for the same amount.

Two methods, same outcome

One funds a random internet/network company and one funds the BBC. Take your pick.

(I pay a TV licence in the UK, so have chosen a free VPN service - but then I have no apple products.)

Now that's a reverse problem, we've been trying to hack into iPlayer through various methods for years on EF and couldn't and now this....!

Here is the Link for the App in Itunes. You will need a non-US, non-UK account. This loads iTunes software, so that must be installed.

Using my work computer which has a Swiss IP

It works fine for me. There is a small link that redirects you to that URL above, but without clicking, it should call up your iTunes App to download the BBC app, which is what it did for me. If you do not have iTunes at work, it probably won't work. I added a note to my original post to this effect.

I don't suppose there is a 3rd party Ethernet dongle and TV-Out for the USB port on the iPad is there ?

Seems a shame to have TV out on the iPad and have to stream with the input coming over wireless. My router/Modem/TV are all in the same place. Wireless strength should be good enough, but it can be laggy/jerky.

Shouldn't do. The rate may be slower than copper, but enough for streaming HD. Methinks the quality will be better over a cable, but I do not see how to plug in a TV out adaptor and a NIC adaptor into a single iPad port. I am hoping the BBC app is TV-Out aware and not just mirrored.

Anyone tried the iPlayer on their iPad 2 over a 3G network? Does it stream well enough?

My iPlayer downloaded from the App Store in seconds (wi-fi). if you want BBC and other channels on your iPad, try the Teleboy App. This is not available outside Switerland...

can soemone help? As referred to above, i have a swiss itunes account - ie i share it with someone based int he uk, as the swiss itunes does not offer much in the way of tv programmes/films etc. So to get the global i player i have to switch to a swiss itunes account? Can i have 2 different itunes account on the same ipad? Nothing is ever simple!!!

On the iPad, just log out of the UK account and log into the CH account. I do it all the time. You get used to it as updates need to log into the store you brought it from.
