A high end notebook I am interested in is about one third of the price in USA as it is here in CH.
There are some threads here about shipping services where you get the item sent to their address in USA and they forward it.

On the Lenovo site it says "Due to U.S. export restrictions and policies, Lenovo does not ship international orders outside the United States. "

• Are there really any such restrictions? either at US or CH ends? I don't want to stumble after I've bought it in USA.
• Has anyone done this?
• Any other pitfalls (I am aware it will have US keyboard and power adapter)

Usually the internet prices between the US and here vary not much more that the costs you would have in any case, shipment, customs and VAT, so that makes me wonder what prices you are comparing. Check here:

Thanks. I havent fond the one I want on sale here in a discounter - only on the IBM website, but for example this one at ARP (one of the best on toppreise) is CHF 2335 here and CHF1225 there including DHL shipping and MWST (i.e. x2)

Yeah, I bought my lenovo via the US website, but didn't try shipping it over. My brother brought it with him when he came on vacation... Didn't want to risk Swiss customs as I've had my hands burned in the past before (paid in customs nearly what the item value was!).

One thing you should check is the international warranty service extends to Switzerland on the lenovo website. My screen packed in but the service centre replaced without hassle (only I had to post across Switzerland as lenovo wouldn't let me upgrade a US warranty and get onsite service in Europe)
