Orange in Neuchatel area, issues?

Hi all,

i have been reading up so old post and it seems like orange service is spotting at only at some places. Due to budget constraint, I am most likely going to sign up a 2 year contract with Orange. Have any one experience any issue with Orange in the Neuchatel area?

thank,

We are with Swisscom and live up in the mountains above Neuchatel - never had any problems with mobiles or the internet.

Orange and Sunrise coverage both used to be very poor in the top part of town (Cadolles, Puits-Godet). That goes back a few years though, they may have improved it.

I don't think so. We have a friend who uses orange (provided by her company) and her phone cuts out mid conversation on a regular basis. She has her own second phone with a different provider which she uses in certain areas.

I have yallo which I think is sunrise and haven't noticed any problems but then I don't use the phone much so I'm probably not the best personto ask.

Why not just buy a pre-paid? You can top up at all railway stations and I think post offices, Migros and Coop.

Orange has by far the worst coverage of all providers in Switzerland. Also, they still don't offer EDGE (they've announced EDGE but since they're about to be sold, I doubt they're going ahead with their network upgrade), so if you don't get 3G coverage (which is almost non-existant with Orange), you're out of luck in terms of data usage.

In a recent article by Le Temps, they said Orange has a on-average call-drop rate of 7.5% and has a network that is massively inferior to Sunrise or Swisscom.

I most definitely wouldn't sign a 2-year contract with them, but that's just me.

Re: Orange in Neuchatel area, issues?

I'm with orange in Neuchatel and get HSPA all the way along the number one root when I'm browsing. I've found Neuchatel to be very well covered.

However...being on the train is like eating nails with orange. I'm hoping to jump ship to Swisscom...under 27 deals on orange are soo good though

Yes Orange has very bad coverage. But try Migros budget mobile - they are supposed to use the Swisscom network and have very attractive prices, although probably not the the highest level for demanding users. We are using Orange prepay and it's just fine. We don't call very often and plus with the ADSL package and Fixtalk they offer some discount.
