Suggest to me a projector (beemer for you swiss)

I want to setup a home cinema, the room its going in is about 8m long by 6m wide, the wall to be projected on is about 1 1/2 m tall

I want it to have hdmi input, as well as video in, pc in maybe s-video, just as long as a pc, 360 and dvd/blueray player can be plugged into it

can be either in switzerland or near the german / french boarder

I have no idea about these things

oh and its going to be mounted permanently from the ceiling so must have have a remote

I got the predecessor of the plv-z4000 from Sanyo and am extremely pleased with it:

Hey BB2!

There are a whole load of factors to take into account with projectors. Firstly you said the wall to be projected onto... are you putting a screen here or intending to project directly onto the wall? Then how far away from the image is the seating?

If you take some pics of the room I'd gladly take a look at them...

I love nerding over AV

could be a screen, could be the bare white wall, whatever I need to do

room is just a barn shell at the moment, which is why I need to sort it out now while its a blank canvas

Re: Suggest to me a projector (beemer for you swiss)

Hi,

have a look here http://alatest.de/testberichte/projektor/c3-27/

I personally have a Hitachi PJTX 200, full 1080 resolution, love the machine.

The beamer in my setup is connected to my Yamaha receiver via a HDMI splitter. The HDMI output from the receiver goes to the splitter and from there to the TV and Beamer, so I can decide whether to watch the video feed on the beamer or on the TV.

The receiver takes all video inputs (ie game console, streamer, DVD, Set-Top Box, etc.). Simple and very effective set up.

oh and make sure you get a proper screen, it will improve the picture quality a lot.

Our Swiss neighbour bought some special screen paint (he said it was expensive) and painted the wall with that.

He's got a picture in front of it which slides to each side when they want to watch something.

guess that's an option but my screen comes down in front of my "ceiling to floor" window so painting was not really an option

Re: Suggest to me a projector (beemer for you swiss)

I am also looking to buy a projector and based on my research so far the best one within my budget (< 1000$) and specifications (HD ready, but this is the first Full HD under $1k!) is Optoma HD20.

http://www.amazon.com/Optoma-HD20-De.../dp/B002G0CWSU

Read a lot raving reviews about it and cant find any other projector currently available in the market that can beat it for what it offers.

Re: Suggest to me a projector (beemer for you swiss)

Well Unless you have a dedicated screen having an HD beamer is a waste of time, so really I'd say a good screen is a must. You're lucky you have an empty shell

I'm using an Acer H7531D at the moment replacing various Sonys For the size and price it is truly amazing but by no means a flagship cinema! The contrast and brightness is really good and personally I'd not go for anything under 2000ANSL, depends how bright your room is of course...

As far as inputs it has all you'd need but it becomes a bit of a moot point as you're far better off running only HDMI and using a good switching AV amp to upscale any cra)py formats; Svhs Composite etc...

Re: Suggest to me a projector (beemer for you swiss)

I can second the vote for the Sanyo.... absolutely great budget projector and very flexible.

For your requirements, I strongly recommend you check out www.projectorcentral.com and find the projector calculator. then choose for example the sanyo and it will show you how big or small an image it can project from the required distance.

the throw distances vary greatly among projectors so you should definitely bear this in mind.

it is also important to have a significant degree of light control in your room.... often switzerland is great for this because a lot of windows come with steel shutter blinds.

This is an incredibly inaccurate statement... even with a white wall, even with the common pebbledash effect you see on swiss walls, as long as light control is maintained the image can be extremely good.

I never yet used a screen and people are never, ever, unimpressed with the image I show them on demo.

cheers

the room can be made totally dark, all it has are some barn doors with replacement new doors inside (we where not allowed to change to look of the barn, so it has no windows apart from the patio doors hidden by the barn doors)

I'm not looking for the super best, my eye sight is so poor its wasted on me anyway

seen a few HD projectors (epson etc) around the 700chf mark and was wondering if they are any good, seen a few reviews saying some people can see rainbowing?? on them, we used to have a rear projection tv in the uk so I think I know what that is, but not 100% sure

as long as it can play dvd's, run the pc and play the 360 and maybe the gamecube (sorry I love starwars on the cube) then I'll be happy.

Re: Suggest to me a projector (beemer for you swiss)

for those with one already,

how far should the projector be from the screen / wall?

I read on most reviews that 3m is about as far as you should go, but that website calculator starts at 3m??

also, whats the longest hdmi lead people have used without affecting the quality
