Web Site Assistance wanted

I need to build a web site for my children's clothes business. Are there any web site that you would recommend to help me build one myself or does anybody have any experience in building web sites and would do this for me for a small fee?. Any assistance welcome. Thank you

Re: Web Site Assistance wanted

I think you may first need to buy and register a domain name (e.g. www.kidsclothes.com).

If you need help with the html codes for your text formatting, let me know.

But as for how to get that text ONTO the web, I'm pretty lost.

I do think, though, that there may be some web-page building programs that you can download to help you.

Good luck!

I don't have any sites to recommend (as the ones I know are in Finnish) but I just know that nowadays it's easy to build web sites yourself because many service providers offer quite straightforward online tools for this.

With these tools you basically create your site using predefined templates and mainly just get to modify the colors and fonts a bit. The actual content you of course also enter yourself. Once you're done with your design, you simply reserve an address for your site from the same tool and can have the site up an running in one night or so.

But I would only recommend this approach if we are talking about a small scale business (or more of a hobby actually) and a website that mainly just contains a simple product catalog and your contact information for example. If we are talking about real business with requirements like online ordering and payments then I would hire professional help.

Have a look at Shopify..

www.shopify.com

They let you set up an online store in just a few minutes. They don't charge you in the first 30 days, so you can try it and cancel it if it's not for you.

If your business should look remotely serious I would strongly recommend working with a (web) agency to set up your website.

For me personally, there is nothing worse than a poorly designed, badly coded website. Especially if you are trying to offer an only shop, you simply must come across trustworthy.

Hi Kirschner,

Depends on the scale of the business you're planning. If you want features like a secure checkout/ paymant cart etc you definitely need professional advise from a web agency, On the other hand if it is just going to be more like an online catalog with inventory details you could choose to do it yourself. You can use services like www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com and buy a domain from them (eg : free version of blogger is http://kirschnerclothes.blogspot.com but for USD 10 you can buy a domain from blogger www.kirschnerclothes.com (subject to availability).I bought my own domain from blogger for a blog I own and find it really economical/ useful.

You can also consider setting up a shop on ebay to use it as a platform for selling things .

Hope this helps.
