UPC Cablecom Region setting

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone with a Swiss German UPC subscription would mind sharing the three figure network code as well as region code found just under neath? I take it the other settings are the same (frequency etc).

Reason is that I'm in Fribourg (1700) Code: 604 region: 5 and have the French setting which means I don't get ITV3, ITV4 as well as BBC4 and the other bilingual channels (Ger/Eng) such as FOX, TNT etc

Anyway, I would be very happy if anyone could share so I at least could try it out

Cheers,

Frank

Re: UPC Cablecom Region setting

Enter an address on the upc cablecom website to find out the correct network codes for the address of interest:
http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/setup_id.htm

Of course, the network code for a different area will not work at your address if that signal is not present at your address

Thanks man, but the three digit activation code is not enough... There is a region code as well (set at 5 where I am) underneath the activation code which I can't get any info on and I need this as well to get the ITV's and my dearly missed BBC4

Re: UPC Cablecom Region setting

I'm also around FR. I have a (slightly) different activation code - last digit is different. Have never seen an area code.

I don't think it makes much odds though - FR. favours more French language channels; and I've never had ITV 3 or 4 of BBC 4, or ever remember seeing them listed as available, here.

Watch them free on line at Zattoo.ch - either with your browser or download the stand alone version. Sign up (free) and watch. You have to put up with a quick ad. when you log on or change channel.

Re: UPC Cablecom Region setting

Hi Frank, I live in the Basel area and my activation code is 201 but I cannot find a region code anywhere. I get ITV 3, ITV 4 and BBC4 but in order to get FOX and TNT I would have to get the comfort package. Don't know if this helps any.

I've never seen a Region Code, and none are displayed at http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/setup_id

Maybe it depends on yout settop box - what type do you have?
Mine is the ADB Recorder, and I cannot remember entering a region code.

But isn't the whole thing academic?
You only have one lot of signals arriving at your house, and only one network code is relevant for your house.

I don't think you can select between different setups (but someone correct me if I am wrong)

ie: I think: what you get is what you get.

Re: UPC Cablecom Region setting

I live in north Bern and I do not receive Fox nor TNT. I have inspected my Philips set top box and the Smart DigiCard, but I have no regional codes, only very long numbers. Also none in the diagnostics and setup pages.

Do you have Analogue or Digital? I pay CHF 15,-- per month (No disk option) and I have,
57 German speaking channels, 21 English (14 are from UK), 9 Italian, 12 French, 20 other (Spain, Portugal, Dutch, Serbian etc).

I know in the old days the Commune or Gemeinde chose which Analogue channels were piped into the village, as only about 23 channels were physically possible. But these days the digital bandwidth is much wider, and I now have 120 channels.

Maybe you can speak to Cablecom UPC and order the digital box for an extra CHF 15 per month?

On UPC Internet I get these codes for my address in 3063 Ittigen,

Do you have a DigiCard? If so, please check your television’s manual to see which parameters are needed for the installation.

Your Setup-ID 03120600
For the following Mediabox types: ADB
Your activation code 205
For the following Mediabox types: Cisco, Pace, Philips, Thomson

Your DigiCard parameters
Network-ID: 43022
Frequency MHz: 426
Frequency kHz: 426000
Modulation: QAM64
Symbol Rate: 6900

Re: UPC Cablecom Region setting

The list of available channels, in each region, is on the upc cablecom website:

Region German speaking Switzerland:
http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/b2c/tv/sender/sendervergleich.htm

Region Romandie:
http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/fr/b2c/tv/sender/sendervergleich.htm

Region Ticino:
http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/it/b2c/tv/sender/sendervergleich.htm

NOTE: the language selection of the website effectively sets the region, like this:
Language DE or EN: Region German Switzerland is displayed
Language FR: Region Romandie is displayed
Language IT: Region Ticino is displayed

So you cannot eg: look for the Romandie region TV channels and have them displayed in EN. To look at Romandie channels, you must select FR.

Re: UPC Cablecom Region setting

Thanks Ittigen for your reply.

I have the full package with all the Digital channels, 100Mb/s internet and the phone thing as well. I also have the new Cisco HD box with recording facility and pay CHF 99 per month.

I'm 100% sure there is an extra region setting under the activation code (which is not a real activation code per say) but have to double check. I'll take a photo and post it here if possible.

I did send UPC a message, but didn't have my Customer number so don't know how seriously they take my question. Surely FR should be able to choose between German and French settings as it is pretty much 50/50 (or maybe a little more towards the French side) but still

Thanks FriendlyKiwi,

Only problem is that it doesn't really draw the boarders of where the language regions start and/or end. Fribourg (IMO) is very much 50/50 FR/DE I'd say so it should be possible to get the DE pack...

I'll try and contact UPC again with my subscriber number and see what they get back with...

Thanks again all for your input

//Frank

Correct, in a dual-language town or canton, you do not see what signal (DE or FR region) is available at what address

Often, this is determined by the physical network layout.
Eg: imagine a dual language street: left side is DE, right side is FR

Often the cable company cables the DE side of the street with a separate cable back to their hub, and likewise the FR side of the street.

And then they provide the DE signal to the DE side, and the FR signal to the FR side. But they cannot provide FR to the DE side, nor DE to the FR side.
So if a FR person moves to the other side of the street - he cannot have his FR signal. He now gets DE.

That's how it used to be.
Whether some intelligence has been added into the signal I am not sure, but because the limitations go right down to how much cable TV capacity exists on the cable, and because cable networks are soooooo full these days, I would be very surprised if BOTH the DE and FR bunch of signals existed on the same cable.

Anyway, your question you need to ask is: "Can I have the german-region program at my address, instead of romandie-region program?"
See what they say.
