We have cablecom internet and it sucks! Keeps crashing all the time, especially when having (video) calls. I had this phone interview the other day and I had to go to friend's house, just to make sure it would work smoothly! |

The connection itself dies? Your video conferencing software?

I have never had any major issues with the connection. One day it was out for when I got up for work, but when I checked at work, they had a clear message on their website that said they had a major line down and gave a timetable for repair. It was fixed by the time I arrived home. Other than that, no problems and the speed is excellent.

We have Cablecom for over a year now. Had a solid connection ever since.
During rush hour 19:30 - 21:30 you won't reach full speed, maybe 50%. But that's fine with me. Overall I got a good impression of the company. When we tried to connect ourselfs with the self help kit it didn't work and we gave them a call. The same day a mechanic came and fixed our cable outlet and connected everything. And just a month ago we send out a requist to stop the contract (because of moving) and they acted prompt and correct as well.
Too bad I can only get Swisscom ADSL in our new apartment. Which is slow and overpiced to my opinion..

Forgive me, I am not really a major Internet expert, my flatmates could explain this a lot better, but for all I know they have been having problems for a long time before I came here and contacting cablecom support service hasn't really helped! We would actually love finding out what the problem is !

Is this still the case? | | | | | Have been using cablecom from 2009, happy with it... do get problems a few times in the year (nothing serious so far) but I guess that would be the case with most of the providers...

Had to replace the modem but a short call with service line confirmed a problem and it was replaced without question. Had to go to service department to replace it but otherwise would have had to wait for the post.

Well I just signed up for Cablecom last week (Internet only).
I received 2 letters, one confirming my online registration with my customer number and the General Terms and Conditions (which I guess I can call it the contract); the second letter probably depends on the services you register for: in my case it contained some info on how to get an email address at hispeed.ch. Both letters had the hotline number for Cablecom.
A day later I received the modem. So far so good! | This user would like to thank Pegaso for this useful post: | |

Only "problem" I have with UPC is that I haven't received any bills yet
Ordered online, got the huge box with router, Digibox and loads of cables and instructions but never signed anything I sent of the papers to have the DD setup, and still nothing has been deducted from my account This is now almost 4 weeks ago...

They sometimes bill two months together and then credit one and so on. I guess the bill and debit will come eventually.
You can always log on to your account with them online and see if a bill is there...

I have a complaint about Cablecom.
4 weeks ago i moved to a new apartment so i decided to get new internet. i rarely use my landline phone so i decided to use Cablecom since they dont require a phone line to get internet.
I called them on Monday, a tech support answered me, i gave him my address which is in Charmille, Geneva, the dude said i can get full speed (100Mbit) connect + Digital TV.
I told him ill check the packages they have and call back when i decide what i want to use. i called back on Tuesday (the next day) to register with them.
Ofcourse, its a different tech support guy answered me, at first, he told me i can get the full package as well, then during the process of registering, he told me "im sorry, but you can only get 100Mbit line but no digital tv", which made me wonder because digital tv depends on how much speed you can get, and if i can get this full speed, i should be getting it no problem. anyway, i ignored it and told him just register for the internet only for now and ill deal with the digital tv later.
He told me no problem, and that i will get the package (modem and such) on the same Friday or Monday after at the most.
After waiting till the next Tuesday (a week after) i receive a letter in my Mailbox telling me that their network does not reach my area!!!
I honestly got very pissed off because they wasted my time and for having stupid people working on the tech support.
Because All they had to do was just enter my address in their system and it gives them YES or NO..... so how did TWO different tech support read the word NO wrong is beyond my understanding.
Now, 3 weeks later, i still have no internet at home because I had to wait for Bluewin to activate my internet connection after i registered with them.
So dont believe everything they tell you, double check yourself and dont let them waste your time for nothing like they did with me.
And because of that, I will never recommend cablecom to anyone even if their connection is reliable and doesnt go down.
ive been using Bluewin for the past 7 years or so and i never had a problem with them before i moved here, i should have just registered with them from the beginning, I would have had my internet more then 10 days ago.
sorry for the long post, but its just a `heads up´ for anyone who wants to use them, their tech support are n00bs and careless.

Had it all up and running in no time and the internet speed is unbeatable compared to ANY copper wire connection
So you have been waiting three weeks for the Bluewin connection? Nice...

| | Re: Cablecom - reliability?
I ordered the full Cablecom Fiber Power for my place at within 4 days I had everything set up and working. So far 100% uptime.
The only issue I have is that the settop box for the TV is a bit sluggish, but that is apparently being changed out for a new one (end 2011 or 2012, still some debate about that). There is a thread on EF about that.
I had Swisscom in Lausanne for 3 years and had very reliable service. So far, both hotlines I have found to be both friendly and helpful, and when they did not know the answer to my questions they told me so! I am still a Swisscom customer for my mobile so it is easy for me to compare still.
Anyone moving and having to choose between Swisscom and Cablecom should be able to make an informed decision based on two things: location and price. If Cablecom is available, take it because it is nearly 40% cheaper than Swisscom. However if only Swisscom is available, then obviously you will need to order their ADSL. Cablecom also does not require a phone for their Internet plans, as previously mentioned. That does save you CHF 25 a month. Additionally, the maximum speed at the moment for a Swisscom line is 50Mbit, whereas Cablecom offers the 100Mbit fiber (in some places). This is due to a cabling crisis that Swisscom has at the moment (a few articles are available on that subject as well).
I hope this post helps clarify some of the issues and sheds some light on the current situation, for both companies have changed a lot over the last several years.
