Can you understand why router is not working.

hello, i have a question for the tech guys.

i have set up internet with the swisscom router, and it is working.
But i want to return the router because even if they told us it was free instead they are charging 150 CHF for it.

Now, if i try to unplug the swisscom and connect my linksys wrt54g router (i use the same cable), it does not receive any signal. The internet led does not turn on, like if it does not recognize the cable. Moreover, immediately also the phone is disconnected (??). The router worked in another apartment until 2 weeks ago before moving.

The swisscom support didn't help much. (it was just a : -why don't you use the swisscom router? - you know 150chf... - well you are not using a swisscom router thus we can not help you ... ).

Not a big deal but when i have these problems i became stubborn and try to solve them ...

Any idea?

thanks...

Re: Can you understand why router is not working.

you're replacing a vDSL modem/router with a router

if you're really against the 150 francs they appear to be charging you, I'll let you have a vDSL router for free, still boxed. After that you're on your own.....

I'm in Zurich tomorrow FWIW and could meet at the HB.

Re: Can you understand why router is not working.

thank you.
Isn't a piece of information that the swisscom support should be able to give? I think i will take the offer. But just to piss them a little I should ask them a modem (it was supposed to be free) and connect the router to the modem? would that work?

Re: Can you understand why router is not working.

you've no need really to connect your router to the modem. But I did have a WRT54GL running Tomato that I did exactly that.

My modem was free. In fact they gave me two.....I'd assume yours should have been free but don't keep up with the current offers
