Weeds, Coupling and Outnumbered.
I liked Coupling, and still really enjoy Weeds. I've found the 3rd and 4th season of Outnumbered to be a disappointment though. I'm watching season 4 now and it's nothing like season 1. I guess kids grow up.

Re: Best Sitcom..

Totally agree those who mentioned "Porridge" - the opening scene where Fletcher is singing "born free" still makes me laugh.
So is (for those who remember it), "Open all Hours" - another Ronnie Barker classic.

"Phoenix Nights" is also on the top of my list. Jerry St. Clair signing "come and get your black bin bags" in Asda.....priceless

Oh, that's a pity. I've only watched seasons 1 and 2 and thought it was hilarious but I think you're right in that the formula probably has a bit of time limit.

The big bang theory and how I met your mother...
Seinfeld and FRIENDS are my personal favorites but the only problem is if you see them now they seem too outdated with technology, happenings etc .
How can you like Seinfeld, a great comedy by the way and also like Friends, a horrendous show??

Anyhoo, my choices would be Seinfeld, Curb your Enthusiasm, Fawlty Towers, Only Fools, Steptoe and Son, In Sickness and in Health

Here are some oldies I watched as a kid, not what you would call classics though. Robins Nest, George and Mildred, Terry and June, Man about the House, It aint half hot mum, Never the Twain.....

Angry boys had me in tears of joy and sadness, and Wilfred is fantastic although I'd love to see the original series.

I've only seen the American version of Wilfred, I'd love to see the original Australian version too. Don't know Angry boys.

Re: Best Sitcom..

Ohh, the recommendations just exploded and shred the boundaries established initially to only Sitcoms.

I am not into Crime, Drama and Thrillers. I like How I met. Watched IT Crowd and first episode was awesome. though lame sometimes (I guess that is the point). Good that I got into some British humor as well...

Re: Best Sitcom..

I'm not well versed with most sitcoms that are on the these days as I haven't had a cable connection in years. But I have seen a smattering of episodes here and there of some "popular" ones in Canada. Maybe I don't have the proper type of funny bone, but shows like The Big Bang Theory, How I met Your Mother and 2 and 1/2 Men can't even crack a single smirk out of me. I find most prime time american sitcoms to be completely flat. I would like to check out some british ones though, and so this thread has helped me with some good suggestions.

I do like Californication (Hank Moody is my man crush), Curb Your Enthusiasm (Larry David - So that's why Seinfeld was so funny) and Arrested Development (all I have to say is, Dr. Tobias Funke).

Great thread!

Undeclared

A Judd Apatow sitcom that lasted 1 season in 2001. It is hilarious.
