Ok guru's, I have 2 mac's and and iPhone (3g) and a gmail account. The mac's work perfectly and are set to use imap so when I open mac mail they are always the same. When I send an email from my iPhone however, it doesn't appear in gmail, so the mac's don't pick it up, so I have to cc myself. I have checked the settings on the phone and they seem to be the same details as the mac, and correct as per the gmail config' guide. I've tried deleting the gmail account off my phone, and setting it up on the gmail tab and manually but it makes no diff' so I obviously have something wrong. Please can someone (in simple terms) tel me what I'm doing wrong as this cc thing is a PITA.

Hm - if you go on your iphone to settings -> mail -> youremail -> account... what does the "outgoing mail server" field say?

are you using exchange or gmail profiles?

if the mail servers are m.google.com then you're using an exchange profile (IIRC)

if the mail servers are imap.google.com then you're using imap.

I followed instructions and set it to exchange and it made no difference
If I make the settings imap, the phone wont connect to any mail server?

I was charging up my 3GS phone the other day and I was getting some weird messages about the mail that I was too lazy to read and didn't care about. But I noticed that iTunes was trying to install software updates for it.

Have you updated the iPhone software lately?

3g - no more updates since earlier this year.

I just checked and all phone and iTunes are all up todate

I deleted all email accounts of the phone, then manually entered the settings using the mac NOT iPhone setting from my gmail account, with the exception of the outgoing server where I just left off the email addy'

Bizzare but there you have it and the phone is now leaving sent mail on gmail and both mac are picking them up.... happy days.
