iPhone geeks, this ones for you

Hey since I know jack about tech stuff
and now being here for quite some time, i think it is time to get an iPhone.

But a couple of questions first.

I want to get the iPhone 4
but I heard a new one is being launced in Oct.
So should I wait so the price of the 4 will go down.

I have a swiss com connection and want to stick to it.
How do I get one on a contract and are there good offers available.
I dont make too many calls, but I would like to have an internet connection on it, since I guess that would be the most part of my phone usuage, coupled with some calls ofcourse.

Which package, sticking with swiss com, would be best for me.

The cost to get the phone on a 1 year contract.
and how much to pay monthly.?

Any info on this would be appreciated before I head to the dealers and let them put me in a spin about the different packages etc which do not go in my favour.

Thanks

as for mobile internet and contract options: hit the search button. there's a gigantic number of threads answering those questions ad nauseam.

as for the iPhone 4s: the new iPhone won't be available in Switzerland right away. France Telecom says the initial launch will take place in the US, Germany, France, the UK and Japan. This isn't anything new and happens with most phone-related product launches from Apple. I'd guess the phone will make it to the CH in late November or early December.

will the iPhone 4 be cheaper after the iPhone 4s announcement? possibly, but not by much. the carriers in Switzerland never had a lot of those in stock, so don't expect clearance sales. they might discount them a bit in combination with contracts.

in my experience, older iPhone series keep their value even on Ricardo and other auction sites.

Re: iPhone geeks, this ones for you

If I was you I would hold out for the Iphone 5 in Late October early November. They'll have fairly decent deals available and you won't need to upgrade for a while.

No matter what people say, Iphone's are the best smart phones out there.

Go to the swisscom website, all the info is there.

Go to a phone shop and pick up a leaflet, all the info is there.

First of all: it's somewhat unlikely that the iPhone 5 will be released at this time. Everything points to the release of a slightly modified iPhone 4 (the iPhone 4s). The iPhone 5 will more than likely be released in early 2012. Anyway, that's speculation.

What's close to certain, however, is that the new iPhone, whichever version that's going to be, won't be available in Switzerland until shortly before Christmas. Apple has been releasing new iterations of their iPhone in big markets first. This has already been confirmed by the head of France Télécom, btw.

And about your last comment - I translate that like so: "my opinion counts and everyone else's is wrong".

Hi Sam ali,

I more or less just moved to Switzerland so had to do everything from scratch (getting mobile subscriptions etc). I found that Orange.ch had by far the best and cheapest deal what seems to be the same usage as you are currently looking for as I'm using. Mostly Data once in a while a short phone call and hardly ever SMS's. This costs me CHF 25 pr month (CHF 35 incluing CHF 10 discount as I have a DD setup).

SO, 1Gb per month, 30 min talk and no SMS for CHF 25.00 is great IMO...

You are better of buying your iPhone separately as you won't be tied to a subscription for years and the cost will almost turn out to be the same over the period as if buying cash.

The iPhone 4 is brilliant, and can't see what the new iPhone 5 will do better (other than the, in my opinion, waste of tech cloud tech)... I would sit the iPhone 5 over and wait for the next generation iPhone
