Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Try turning off the wireless network on the time capsule. Your Mac should then see it as networked drive on the Horizon's wifi, and you can then select it as the time machine destination.

[QUOTE=Jack;1773211
My biggest question is regarding the Favorite channels. I have no problem setting the the favorites, but I haven't really figured out how to have these channels as the default (for channel surfing, using the TV guide, etc.). Can anyone explain?
[/QUOTE]

That would make a lot of sense and be very user friendly.....so it has no place in the typical crap dvr software.

My brother in law just got the box. Maybe I'll take a look at it at his before ordering.

Once you set favourties, they appear at the top of the TV Guide. So it is useful somehow, maybe.

If you do a long press of the up or down button when watching live, to get the channel list superimposed on the left hand side of the screen, you also get your favourites showing up first.

Well at least that sounds like an improvement.

I may not get to see the box in operation at my brother in law's place, after all. He just told me he's sending it back...

I do like the Single Channel element. I also discovered it is best to set the color to RGB instead of the default setting of automatic. This will prevent occasional cut-outs and loss of color (or some weird red filter effect).
That is interessant. What TV do you have?
Mine is a Samsung and I never saw that.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Is there a delay in the Internet reconnecting after installing the new Horizon box ?
I have TV working, and the Horizon box can ping the DNS servers (using the web interface), but none of my clients, wired or wireless can see the Internet. They all have a DHCP address, but none can ping the DNS server or connect to external/Internet addresses, If its just a matter of waiting an hour or two, that is fine, but I suspect bigger problems here.

Interestingly , the box fails to connect to the Home/LAN, so I have had to connect all clients via switches to the Horizon ports/switch, some 15 devices , via 2 switches. they all can talk to each other, but nothing can get onto the Internet.

The Horizon box seems to have no problems talking IP out to the Net, it has a WAN IP , sees the DNS servers and other servers etc...

how long should I wait before calling Cablecom ?

EDIT:

On the Horizon TV menu, under network diagnostics, it says NET DISABLED under Network Status...No option to enable it...

Any ideas ?

The remote has a TV button on the top, but it doesn't turn my Bravia on and off. Is there a way to program the remote to do this?

It's on the CD that came in the box. There's also a paper copy in the box.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Update: A call to a very helpful English speaking lady at Cablecom confirmed my Internet / Telephone was not activated yet, one hour later I am up and running...

Strange though. Not as flawless as I expected. My old non recorder receiver that was used in the bedroom has to be replaced, and they wont transfer the 1/2 price 12 moth offer I had on it, so now TV in the bedroom costs me 30CHF pm more...

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

I tried these instructions, but the TV standby light doesn't flash as expected

How can I change the volume of my television set with my Horizon remote control?
To adjust the volume of your television set using your Horizon remote control, the Horizon remote must be linked to your television set. A detailed description can also be found in the enclosed Quick Guide. The enclosed installation DVD also features an animated video that takes you through the process of linking your remote control.

Proceed as follows:

1. Turn on the TV and switch off the Horizon Box.

2. Press VOL- and keep the button pressed; then press the SOURCE button simultaneously (top centre button). After approximately 5 seconds the TV standby button will flash red twice. Now release both buttons.

3. Within one minute, enter the brand code of your television set using the number field on the Horizon remote control.

Acer 28
Grundig 1162
Hitachi 1251
JVC 1464
LG 1628
Loewe 1660
Metz 1810
Nec 950
Panasonic 2153
Philips 2192
Pioneer 2212
Samsung 2448
Scott 2508
Sharp 2550
Sony 2679
TechniSat 2873
Telefunken 2914
Thomson 2972
Toshiba 3021
United 3106

If your code is not listed, please refer to the manual on the installation DVD provided.

4. To test whether the remote has been linked successfully, switch on the television set using the TV standby button on the Horizon remote control.

5. Press and keep holding the VOL- button and press the SOURCE button simultaneously to save the code. After a maximum of 5 seconds the TV standby button will flash red twice. This means the remote is now linked.

I tried these instructions, but the TV standby light doesn't flash as expected.
Edited to add, the image of the control in their online manual does not look like my controller.
The top middle button isn't a source button, with the traditional icon, instead it is a "upc" button.
