Forgive me if I am wrong, but if the box is acting according to the EPG data provided by the TV station, then it would be up to the TV station to make sure their EPG is up to date. If they change broadcast times for a particular program and don't update the EPG, then the box wouldn't know.
It's a bit like DNS. you can update immediately, but propagation is slow, most units tend to schedule EPG updates to a few times a day at most. As most delays in schedules are hard to predict and happen at the last minute, the recorders are too late to get notice.

Now why can't they broadcast/transmit a 'Record now, if set to record this program' signal at the beginning and similar at the end...

There's a good idea - is t in the DVB specs?

Ah - here we go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programme_Delivery_Control

And when you read the Freeview specifications, you see a lot of attention was made to recording:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeview%2B
Quote:
Accurate recording (equivalent to PDC) – programmes are recorded based on signals from the broadcaster rather than scheduled time. (Since this is based on signals from the broadcaster, the broadcaster can prevent recording by sending nonsense signals as a form of copy protection, as already happens on music channels. However, this can be circumvented by specifying a timer recording instead of a programme recording or by connecting the receiver to a traditional videocassette recorder.)

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

The only reason to change from Swisscom to Cablecom would be the faster internet. In the end the combination offer from both Swisscom and Cablecom are exactly the same in price-actually Cablecom ends up with the higher price for the combination. Swisscom TV is good and never had any problems-which I could never say for the Cablecom tv that I had in the past. Having the best of both worlds-Swisscom TV and Cablecom Internet is far too overpriced. Trapped all along the way!

I can't see how can the 109CHF for the Cablecom Package be more expensive than the 159CHF Swisscom package...

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Actually yes. When one has Swisscom TV then one does not have to pay the 29 CHF monthly connection fees from Cablecom just to have the socket aktive. So then it comes down to 100 CHF.

This assumes the Swisscom price includes the monthly Swisscom line rental, which as a CC customer using their digital phone I do not pay...

you could switch it to NATEL for the same 29CHF, that is true) but only to get nothing for the Phone Abo (no calls, 250MB data, 50SMS) and a 0.7CHF/call price rate. I did the same but I'm still wondering why.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Yes sorry you are correct. The point is that in the Super combi from Cablecom of 109 CHF then you also have to add on 29CHF for the connection fees.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

and if you're renting you often save this cost in the Nebenkosten (the base Cablecom fee).

my single tuner Dreambox changes channels much faster than my Cisco box.....ergo I use this as my set-top box.

Recordings have long since been replaced by torrents. Why fight with the EPG when you can download the show (and for BBC and ITV, in HD as Cablecom ain't shifting on UK HD channels like Swisscom has).

I'm seeing some annoying errors with the Horizon box.

"Sorry, this recording is not complete, it was stopped due to a recording clash (Error code 4015)"

I thought this thing was supposed to have 4 tuners?
I watched a programme live as I was recording it tonight, and part way through the Horizon box crashed, and lost the picture completely. The only way I found out of this was to power cycle the box. When I looked at the aborted recording I got the above message.

I've just switched from Swisscom to Cablecom (older Cisco box) and its like stepping back to the 90's. There are very few settings, its slow, the program guide is crap (blocky teletext graphics, freezes the picture and sound while you access it). Hopefully the bugs are ironed out of Horizon soon so I have something to upgrade to.

I just upgraded from the Cisco crap to the Horizon box. While there may be some bugs (I haven't encountered any, though - but I haven't had a chance to run the box through its paces), the box is DRASTICALLY better than the Cisco box, which is total and utter rubbish. I can't believe Cablecom got away with that piece of s**t for so long.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Most annoying issue I'm having is the stability of the network using the Samsung box as the modem. I get frequent dropouts, via Ethernet and wifi, plus my Airport Express, used to stream music to speakers, is constantly dropping off the network completely. I was previously using the Ubee modem + Airport Extreme base station which was solid as a rock, and I'm sorely tempted to go back to that combination.
