HI , I'm moving to Lausanne in september. I was wondering from the day we register with cablecom, how long does it take normally for them to connect the service (TV /Internet)?
Thanks in advance
If your apartment/house is already connected, normally around 24hrs

ie: order what you want before lunchtime, and it's in your letterbox the next day when you get home from work.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

As I'm planning to use Cablecom - is there any package with more "English" channels like Discovery, HBO, etc. - been checking their website and majority is either for German or French speaking?
If not what is the other option?

Cheers;
G.

All the packages and channels are on the Cablecom website, if it's not on there listed as English then they don't have it in English. Swisscom is the other option, and there's not much difference between them.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

When we tried to install CableCom in our apartment this June, it was a problem, that cable access is sealed (plombiert) for whole house. As we understand, we could not just remove "seal" for our apartment but have to make it for whole house all in all. Who knows, what should we do in this case and how much could it costs?

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Ask Cablecom. They speak English if necessary. Ask them to come to your place and unblock the socket; they'll realise soon enough if they need to unblock everything.

Unblocking is free, but ... it will result in a charge of around 27r/month (either billed to you or via your landlord and re-billed to you) which you then pay even if you decide to get no Cablecom services at all. This is because you can connect a TV to it and get some basic channels and even get slow (but useable) internet through it.

German (even Swiss one) is not a problem at all.

Does it mean that all tenants in house have to pay 27r/month if whole house would be unblocked?

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Weird... I just got a letter through the post for a "Terminvereinbarung für Plumbierung". They want access to my apartment next week from 8-9pm.

I haven't ordered a technician to put an access point anywhere... I did enquire about it months ago but that was purely informational and nothing from the convowe had told me otherwise.

Anyone else had one of these lately or have an idea what it may be about?

I tried to call late last week but the lines are closed after 6pm and on weekends, grr.

Ask Cablecom - I think someone suggested that already I doubt it; I assume - if your socket in your house is blocked off - that everyone's sockets are also individually blocked off. If not, they can unblock the whole house and individually block everyone apart from you. Compared to the profit they'd get from even one customer, it would be worth their while to do this.

If only our apartment would be unblocked, should we still pay 27r/month or it would be higher fee?

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

I unblocked it myself when my equipment arrived (it's just a bit of plastic foil).

I'm guessing I shouldn't because about three weeks later they called to make an appointment for an engineer to remove said foil.

So, anyway. If you have a box with a plain plastic fron and a sticker covering the screw, then you can be unblocked individually.

* Don't remove it yourself if you're not paying for the connection. It's likely to be fraud.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

New Horizon box is truly crappy design. The cooling fan located in bad position and without proper distances with tiny inlet. When put flat inside enclosed cabinet it shuts down after few minutes sending FAN ALARM. Called cablecom for solution and they admitted they have experienced this common problem with new boxes. My solution put it upside-down and the problem solved. Try to place it near windows or areas with access to more air flow.

Not just the box but the remote, menus and the whole interface is trully crappy! I wish my husband hadn't upgrated it!

Actually remote is the only nice thing about the whole system. You can synch your TV and HD with it, therefore no need for two remotes

It's an absolutely terrible remote. Better to have two separate remotes that have some actual functionality that one that controls two devices but has next to no functionality compared to the old one.

That's the cablecom business philosophy - get budget hardware and stuff the clients

One thing I quite don't get it, although my wife deals with them as I lost my patience long ago, why on earth they sent us additional wifi modem whilst the horizon box itself supports it Mind you, for a while we had two UPCxxxxx wireless networks but afterwards decided to disconnect one.

So Richog and Alemoa would agree with my wife who like using two separate devices, whereas I just like a single controller.

Unless you have a modern Samsung TV (especially odd, 'cos I think the RC is made by Samsung).

I think everyone would obviously prefer one controller and less clutter, but what use is that controller if the functionality is complete crap, other than being able to turn things on and off and press numbers?

Besides, it doesn't even work with my TV.

I have an old non-recording Cablecom HD box. Even that remote can control the basic functions of my Sony TV. So this is nothing new for Horizon.
