So you use the WiFi then? And the WiFi connected to the existing network doesn't drop? Valuable information. Thanks.
I use my Horizon as my main access point and internet router (and TV receiver)

It is cabled via GigEthernet to my main PC, TV, DVD player, NAS, and a 2nd WiFi AccessPoint

I added the 2nd AP because where I have my TV in my house is too far away from other rooms for the WiFi to each.

The Internet connection is rock solid stable.
Even when the TV receiver crashes, the Internet connection never drops (unless I power-cycle the box). I think the cable modem is a separate piece of kit inside the same box.

The WiFi has also been stable, I've never suffered WiFi dropouts

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

I disabled WiFi on the Horizon (Peeved that 5GHz is disabled) and hard wired my R6300 AC WiFi router to it, putting the router at the other end of the apartment where it is needed most. Sadly , the R6300 gets stuck now and again, something it never did solo. I have to disconnect and reconnect Wireless devices once or twice a week,

Thanks. I will call Cablecom later and hopefully they send a new box out.

The Cablecom interface seems to have had an update, My Recordings are now ordered chronogically with an easier to read interface. Wonder when the new full update and remote is out.

Website says the remote should reach everyone by end of September. You can also find some more info on upgrade schedules etc:
http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/suppor...s/horizonnews/

In my area the software upgrade came a few days ago. I'm not sure if there's more happening in the near future or this was it. I have not noticed anything special yet, having said that I'm a new user and only had our horizon hd recorder box for a week or so (haven't even recorded anything yet).

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Got the new Horizon box last week. Initial impression was that it was a good upgrade from our 5 year hold Philips box. Although more clunky to use.

But a problem quickly occurred. Once in a while the screen would go black for a second or two.

Have spoken to Cablecom 3 times today - their tech support is really useless. It transpires that there is a problem with the HDMI feed from the box and Philips TVs (and apparently some Sony). So basically I have the wrong TV (Philips). Never was a problem with the old box. Their solution - use scart!!!! What planet are they on? When I told them that was not an option, the other would be to get the CISCO box instead.

Who has / had that, what is it like?

Anyone else with this problem - or with a 3 year or older Philips TV who doesn't have this problem?

Of course I could get a new TV, but ours is max three years old, almost top of the range Philips.

Or I could move to Swisscom.

My software is noticeably improved now, I like the My Recordings section much better and overall it seems much, much faster. Looking forward to the new remote now!

No solution, the problem's still there. I have since switched TVs (still Samsung) and the issue persists.

I've gotten used to it. Happens about once every 30 minutes or so for 1 second. Does NOT happen with the Horizon box, though :-)

Sounds more like a HDMI cable/contact issue, ever tried swapping cables or HDMI input jacks on the TV?

that sucks... i had once a similar issue with my PS3-amp-tv setup, turned out one of the HDMI cables was faulty and caused a blackout every 25-30 minutes for 2-3 seconds. never heard of the issue ever since i replaced them both.

Neighbour had a similar problem, occured at the same time Swisscom installed fiber to the home

He swore the coax cable was damaged

I went and diagnosed it with him: it was the HDMI connector on the back of the TV that was loose. The connector was a bit loose in the socket,
Wiggle the HDMI cable and the picture would come and go.

We fitted a new HDMI cable, which made better connection, and since then everything has been perfect.

Me too.

They should make it clear what compatibility issues there are up front rather than wasting peoples time.

I have a CISCO box and am thinking about switching to Horizon.

Has Cablecom solved their problems with the new software update?
