DigiCard is just a decrypter, it has no tuner, no recorder.
The ability to record and use multiple tuners with a DigiCard is governed by what device you have the DigiCard plugged into

If the DigiCard is plugged into a device that has no recording capability, then you cannot record (eg: a simple TV)

If the DigiCard is plugged into a device that can record, then you can record (eg: a TV with harddrive recording capability, or a BlueRay Disc Player with Tuner and Recording capability)

If the DigiCard is plugged into a device that can record, and has multiple tuners, then you can record one channel while watching another

NOTE: most devices only have one Tuner, so this will limit the ability to record one channel and watch another.

Horizon has 6 tuners, and a harddrive, so you can record 5 programs on 5 channels at the same time, whilst watching a 6th channel. BUT Horizon is a settop box with its own remote. Not everyone likes to have 2 remotes (1 for TV, 1 for box) and not everyone likes to have a settop box.

You have the power of choice.
Inform yourself, then choose.
For some reason there is no 'Thanks' button available to me on this (and some other threads. I've never really understood why), so, Thanks!

It's only if the post is too old. You will notice the posts above you do have thanks and groan buttons.

Cheers. That makes sense. I would 'Thank' you, but it might look a little cliché.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Well, the new remote arrived.

It's not perfect (I'd have liked a Favourites button) and the alpha keyboard is a bit of overkill (though may be more useful with future updates) but overall, I'm much happier.

And this one controls my telly properly, which is nice.

We just received ours too. Paired it and it controls the TV well but only works with the box within a 1m radius. Totally pants.

Erm, loads of my English channels appear to have dissappeared. No ITV, Channel 4 etc... tried a reboot no joy, and the helpline is closed on weekends.

The helpline is now only open Monday-Friday. Which really sucks, I can't believe they don't have it open on a Saturday at least!

I believe ITV and Channel 4 are now HD (since a couple of weeks ago or so), maybe they moved around?

I had the old (non-HD) channels in my "favorite channels" list and I had to re-add them because of that.

Is there STILL no way to delete recordings by series_ I see only the option of deleting a single episode, or deleting everything in my library. Very annoying.

My Horizon shows up in my Windows 8 Network Map, I can manage all my recordings via Explorer. This may be an easier option for you.

Brilliant idea, didn't realise I could do it that way!

Having trouble seeing it on my Hoenetwork though... says its connected as Gateway but I can't see it on my laptop. Hmm, need to play around more.

EDIT - Hmm I cant get it to show up in my network map as a browseable drive. It detects it, but it aint browsable.

EDIT - EDIT - Ok it is browseable, but through only through Windows Media Player it seems. I can see my recordings, but still, I cant delete things. Bah.

Make sure your network type is set to 'Home Network' and that Network Discovery is turned on, also that UpNP enabled on your router etc.

As a Folder ,, it uses the SMB / CIFS protocol, what you are seeing in a Media player is a DLNA search. Different protocols/ports etc.

It's all set up as you say but doesn't appear on my network. WindowsFirewall is enabled, in addition to the router hardware firewall. Router is Belkin N600. Hmm, very annoying.

Do you have Horizon uPnP turned on ?

Sadly, I never did anything to see this, one day presumably after a Horizon update, the 5GHz WLAN band was turned on , and this device started appearing on my network.

Cablecom were very low key about major feature updates here.

Check your versions on teh Horizon admin page, my software version is 0.7 and the hardware version is 7. Maybe you have not got the update yet ?

EDIT: I get completely different hardware / software version numbers through the web admin page than I do through the Horizon settings via the TV.

Check for an update via the TV.

Does anyone else have a problem using the new Horizon remote? Ours operates the TV without issue but needs to be within 1m of the Horizon box to operate that. Cablecom cust services eventually sent a second new remote but that has the same issue. They say our (Samsung) TV may be "on the same frequency" as the Horizon box. Never had an issue with the last Cablecom remote though. Any ideas?

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

After over a year of good service with Cablecom, the connection became very unreliable and suffered from high lag and dropped packets.

As my apartment just got connected to fiber, I didn't waste time resolving it and instead cancelled my connection.

Aghhh its really pissiong me off that I can't get my Horizon box to show up asn an explorable drive to delete the recordings... even when the hardware and software firewalls are disabled! It still shows only in Windows Media Player, and while I can see the recordings, there is no possiblity to delete anything. *gnashes teeth*

What error do you get when you try "net view \\<i.p. address>"

Have you done a system update, does your firmware etc match mine which works ?

Strangely, having changed nothing, mine has gone away ???

This is a very 'low tech' suggestion but have you tried using new batteries? The ones supplied with the device are terrible. I, and 2 or 3 colleagues, had various issues with the new remote, but all of us have found that a couple of new Duracells or similar long life batteries, and all is suddenly OK.
