This is apparently already available in other areas/countries with the current Cisco box...
What a shame that they developed it but couldnt be bothered to deploy it here.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in Nov '11

According to the upc netherlands site, the new Horizon box is now starting to roll out there.

It was always planned to roll out first there and follow afterwards in Switzerland.

Lets hope we still hear something here in the next couple of months.

EDIT:- a bit of googling says that they expect to roll out in their other territories between 3 and 6 months after the Netherlands.

Meaning the old Cisco box is being replaced with a similar Cisco box OR you will actually receive the/a new generation box (Samsung is it)?

Hmmm, I also saw the NDS logo on the UPC site so does this mean they are moving away from Nagra3?

I suspect Cablecom will only roll out the new HD boxes as of 1.1.2013, i.e. at the same time that they give up the encryption of the basic programming.

That way they only need to replace those HD boxes of customers who have additional TV packages and not for everybody else. Cuts down on the logistical effort.

Or swap the boxes that do not work 100%. Faults with my Cisco HD recorder:

1. Switches itself off while watching a channel ( >>>>>> LOADING)
2. No picture but sound on either HD or SD channels (can be for both HD and SD)
3. No sound but picture on either HD or SD channels (never both)
4. Cutting recordings due to (yes you guessed it) >>>>>>> LOADING

Nothing a hard reset won't solve (i.e. PO/PO)

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Well I'm sure that cablecom will not provide the new box without putting up the prices. Probably a box for the " elite" and one for the " peasants".
Anyhow from 2013 they put up the price for the Cablecom connection ( radio and tv) from 25 to 30 CHF per month so if you are with Swisscom for TV and Internet then it is a good reason to have your Cablecom connection " plugged" and save 30 CHF every month. Cablecom does not give an inch!!!!And sure they don't give a damn! Anyhow this company is run by global players who only think in terms of themselves.

http://www.lgi.com/horizon.html

ME: 'What a NEW box?'

CC: 'Yes, and it will have many new features including being able to record upto 5 programs at once! You will also be able receive a greater choice of English HD channels'.

Me: 'Will it cost more?'

CC: 'Not for our existing HD customers, but new customers will see an increased monthly premium'

EF'ers,

Looking through the numerous UPC threads, I share the pain with many of you with the current crap Cisco HD box and service... After the 4th failure of my box in two years, I called CC last night and told them to simply take it away, as I'm off to Swisscom.

But for the first time, CC through me some information to make me think twice.

CC: 'Sir, we know you have had several problems with this Cisco box, and we are aware of these issues to. But from November this year, we will no longer be supplying this box to our customers, as we will be moving to a brand new Samsung HD Box'

Me: 'Ok, I call back in November for a new box'....

Brilliant, after almost two years a new box!!!

Has anyone else had this conversation with CC or know of what's on the horizon with CC new box? I'm a little excited now!

PS: They are replacing my current faulty box with another one for now!

Great, so this means that the "new" box is already old before it even hits the shelves

Thanks for sharing

Btw, saw that UPC Ireland now have 50,100 and 150Mb/s lines on offer... Some speed I must say

Re: New upc cablecom Horizon box

I've just signed up to the crazy deal (or is it top deal) last month, and got the lousy Cisco box. How can I get the Horizon? Do I need to cancel my current deal (still in trial period) and switch to a Horizon deal? Can I not just swap the Cisco for the Horizon?

Re: New upc cablecom Horizon box

as axman said - can you switch out your crap box for a hopefully less crap Horizon box?

what is the DLNA functionality of the Horizon box?

and is it a secret that you should have good knowledge of these topics?

I also signed up for the Crazy Deal and got the Cisco box.

I complained, and got them to swap it out for a DigiCard instead. My Sony TV has a CI+ slot, and it's much friendlier than the Cablecom box was.

Cablecom themselves admitted that the Cisco box wasn't that good, was old technology, and had problems recording sometimes... but couldn't tell me when the new box would be released.

Alternatively, you can buy Samsung Blu-Ray players with a CI+ slot. M-electronics are selling the "SAMSUNG BD-E6300" for 209 CHF (you must supply your own USB hard disc), or the BD-E8300 for about 330 CHF (which has a built-in 320Gb hard disc)

Re: New upc cablecom Horizon box

I guess you could ring up and swap. The "crazy deal" with all 3 things (TV, phone, internet) was 75Fr/month. There's a new deal with the same stuff, but with the Horizon box, for 89Fr/month.

I don't want a phone line, but their duo deals aren't good value at the moment, not that they usually are.

Re: New upc cablecom Horizon box

I signed up to the Crazy deal last month for when we move to our new place in February, so it was fixed at the CHF 75 price. It will be interesting to see if on the 1st Feb they send me the old Cisco box or the new Horizon receiver.
