Re: New upc cablecom Horizon box

I also signed up for the Crazy Deal and got the Cisco box.

I complained, and got them to swap it out for a DigiCard instead. My Sony TV has a CI+ slot, and it's much friendlier than the Cablecom box was.

Cablecom themselves admitted that the Cisco box wasn't that good, was old technology, and had problems recording sometimes... but couldn't tell me when the new box would be released.

Alternatively, you can buy Samsung Blu-Ray players with a CI+ slot. M-electronics are selling the "SAMSUNG BD-E6300" for 209 CHF (you must supply your own USB hard disc), or the BD-E8300 for about 330 CHF (which has a built-in 320Gb hard disc)
I have a question about the Digicard. Can you get all channels with it, including ESPN America and others that you get with the "comfort" package level? Trying to figure out if we can get rid of our box(es) and just go with the digicards to save on remotes, etc.

Anyone with info on the Horizon box? Is it worth upgrading to? (I think it costs 10 CHF more per month compared to my current subscription)

Thanks...

I just got a call from Cablecom saying the Horizon service launched today with the new Samsung box. Their website keeps crashing every time I click on Existing customers, so doesn't look like the Cisco box will be going this week

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Just received my Horizon box this morning already :-)

What I didnt know is that it has a modem and wifi router and phone connection all in the box... so I can get rid of my modem... less wires, thats great.

I have to wait a day or two for activation however, so will be trying to watch as much as possible from what I have recorded on my existing box until then.

UPC Cablecom - Horizon is here.

Hi all,

just an FYI if you are walking around with your eyes not looking at posters. :-)

http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/b2c/kombiangebote.htm
109CHF for everything per month, the all-in-one box is very advanced. Available from now on.

If you got any problems/issues with the box, you can discuss it here.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Every time I've changed my Cablecom box it's been a nightmare, and the current box is has been playing up for a couple of months. I've been trying to decide if the pain of it's glacial pace movements and general buggyness (is that a word) was any worse than being without TV while they sort it out, fill my house with boxes, and send me crazy bills.

That said the internet upgrade couldn't have been done any better of faster.... but that wasn't the media recorder.... what to do, what to do!

thanks - can we then maybe correct the thread title not to refer to something that doesn't exist anymore?

I guess they can't keep the load. No wonder, me thinks? Generally try to avoid doing anything on Mondays for any call center, it's always the most load on systems/people.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

I would swap my non-recording HD box for the digicard thing but when I check this online there's a 99Fr charge for the card, plus 49Fr activation!! So it's cheaper for me to keep the (one assumes more expensive) box.

I'm still getting the Classic TV package for 6Fr/month (as that's what it cost when I subscribed 2.5 years ago to "digital TV basic" with their non-HD box. That box failed, and they replaced it with the HD one).

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Hi,

we have the same subscription as Adrian and so it is had to see why it would make sense to change...it would just be more expensive.

I would prefer them to show BBC 1, ITV and Channel 4 HD channels...and BBC 2 HD when it replaces BBC HD. Who on earth watches the Fashion Channel ??

Have fun

Martin

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

It would appear you only need an UPC userid to make use of the horzion.tv ipad apps/webpages - so the extra cost of the new horzion packages is only for a 6 tuner samsung box and not much else. I think I'll hold off for the moment.....

Apple App Store. Search for UPC. Scroll though until you get to the horizon app. Install. Enter upc userid and password ( the one you use to view your bills etc). Thats all I did.

EDIT: And it worked only for 20 mins before coming up with the error that this content cannot be played at this stage.... Not sure if it is non-horizon subscription or just a network issue

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Thanks! Found the app "Horizon TV". Logged in with email, since customer-id didn't work. It lets you watch Live TV, TV series (there are some free ones) and Movies which you purchased and there's also a TV Guide. Quite cool. Saw a similar app at a friends' who had Swisscom, so I guess CC catched up at last

Not exactly - for 9 Fr. per month more you get the box plus 50 mbit/s more speed on your internet connection. 150 mbit/s ist about 7 times what you get from Swisscom.

Also, the "6 tuner samsung box" runs circles around the absolutely abysmal former cablecom HD box. The latter was absolute and total rubbish, an unusable piece of s***t.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

If I try to watch live TV (either online from my laptop or using the iPhone app) I get told "A subscription is required to watch this video".

I'm logged in, so I guess you need a Horizon package (or at least not the 3 year old one I have).

It seems to have a built-in wireless router / switch capability with phone ports too.

There definitely is - the box can completely replace the dedicated Cablecom modem / WiFi router. When you order it, there's also the option to keep on using an additional modem (for users who have their network gear in the basement, for example).

The jury's out in how far the box will be configurable, though. If you're a power-user in terms of your network installation, you might wait until you've read some comments on that.

I'm not sure about being an early adopter. I hope UPC have learnt a bit from the Dutch experience.
