Cablecom router and other router options

Hi all,

I had a quick look at some older threads concerning this but thought maybe asking again for new subscribers to Cablecom would yield better results.

So I just signed up to the 100meg cablecom. But they told me that the router they give isn't an N router and will only give me half that speed for wifi

Is this true? Seems a bit counter productive

Also if I want to buy a new router can I just get any N router I like and it will work or will it be very complicated? Would an N router from the UK work?

Thanks

Re: Cablecom router and other router options

It will work - I am using an N router from Australia with Cablecom Fibre Power.

Assuming you mean the Thomson router I got with my FP100 package, then it is an N-Router , dual band etc.

Re: Cablecom router and other router options

I replaced my cablecom router last year, it was rubbish, as well as not being fast enough, I had to reset it every couple of days as the wireless stopped working randomly.

Not had any problems at all with my new apple one, it's been running non stop for months now.

Re: Cablecom router and other router options

If they're saying it isn't an N router than it's G which is 54mbps versus your 100mbps connection. N is 150mbps/300mbps depending on frequency used 2.4/5.0GHz

Re: Cablecom router and other router options

I'm just going by what the geezer on henbane said. Won't find out until mid December when my swisscom finishes. The 200 chf bonus for switching was nice.

I was surprised that swisscom didn't try to keep me when I called up though...I guess they just can't match cable com!
