Can you turn it into a wifi hotspot without extra charges?
I can do that with my current one, never used it.

i'm planning to get a samsung as my next phone because of the plastic. it's so much lighter than the iphone4.

And if it get's scratched or damaged you can just buy a new phone back for minimal cost, thus not needing a huge gaylord cover for your phone.

I don't like carrying a charger for my iPad and for my microUSB.
It would be nice if the iPhone (or any smartphone) could last a whole, entire day on one charge ...

I have an additional battery built into the crash-case that I bought for my iPhone. This requires a micro USB charger -- same as for many other devices, so I don't need to use (or pay extortionate charges to buy) the ridiculous Apple charger.

Apple are offering a MicroUSB adapter for their propriety plug now. They were obliged too under an EU agreement IIRC.

Uh, yeah, and if you turn it off completely the battery will last for years ... what's the point of having all those features if you have to switch them off to conserve battery life?

It's like turning your heating at home down to minimum because you're worried about the energy bill. The potential is there, you just can't use it.

ermmm, not really, do I use wifi etc while I'm at work and the phone is in my pocket? nope, so why have it on draining the battery??

If you want the battery to last then turn off what you don't need, or never use, I have and the battery is still at 50% after 2 days, simple

Re: iPhone5/iphone4s 7pm tonight

I think that is the whole point of apple becoming the most admired company in the world. People had huge expectations on the iphone front in yesterday's event and here in forum and in press people are looking disappointed.

For me it was not so bad. I have a 3GS and wanted to upgrade as my contract is about to expire. But irrespective of that if we look at the overall difference this time then it was more about the software and apps then the hardware itself. They off course did some major improvement on HW side as well like new chip, Camera, Antenna (was surely expected ) but the major difference this time around was OS and software side

- Auto software updates
- Get rid of Itunes sync with PC
- Icloud, Photo, Music, document sync
- much better features on video and photo side
- Siri thing (I am not too excited about it though)

Now another thing with Apple is whatever they offer, it actually works. They have best app store and quality of roll out is amazing. It works seamlessly with other devices (Ipad, prining, TV etc).

Problem with Android is the quality of what you own is not as good. Store is not that standard. It is difficult to upgrade the versions, so there could be 10 different versions in the market with fragmented market share and thus an App Developer can never get the right app which works fine on your version.

And I think in terms of price there could be a marginal difference between the price of Iphone 4S and Iphone 4, like Ipad and Ipad 2 (in CH Ipad 2 was cheaper, but that could have been because of forex).

So all in all Apple Fans wanted much more and are disappointed to not to see Iphone 5 but I don't think that many people who are using Iphone any version for last 1 year or more would be willing to switch to Android so easily. All the people who were on 3 or 3 gs would upgrade. People on 4 would still wait for another 12 months to get to 5.

Where to begin

-I've not been impressed with the feel of most HTC + Samsung phones. They are all very plasticky. When I had the 3GS...well that was plasticky as well so it didn't make a difference. The iPhone 4 however oozes quality IMO

-I'm really quite pissed off with my HTC Desire. It took HTC an AGE to get 2.3 gingerbread officially on. Then when they offered it, a lot of the apps were removed due to lack of internal space. Now I have the facebook app, G+ app, whatsapp, SBB app on it and if I try and install something simple like the XE currency converter it says I don't have enough space! I bought this phone of r£400 when it was new out in April 2010 and it's already suffering from storage issues AND it's not going to get any more new updates from HTC.

- The buttons at the bottom don't work as well as they used too. It's covered under warranty but actually claiming on the warranty is a huge hassle with phoning up and sending my phone away etc. If it was an iPhone I could just grab the train to Geneva and pop in the Apple store and get it sorted.

- I have an iPad and feel the iPhone compliments it better

- The camera is pretty terrible. The new SGS2 isn't too bad but not good enough to replace a P+S IMO. The iPhone 4S camera looks to be a belter.

- The nearest competitor to the iPhone would be the Nexus prime and it looks like it's going to have one of them curved screens which I don't like much. Also I'm not too keen on the browser in Samsung phones. Does't seem as smooth as the HTC jobs.

- Even with 2.3 gingerbread on my phone I feel it's very buggy. Things like I receive a missed call and clear it. Then if I restart my phone I see the same missed call there.

-I find Jailbreaking to be easier than rooting. Although with HTC unlocked bootloaders this may not be the case anymore

- I don't like carrying a charger for my iPad and for my microUSB.

The software is upgraded regardless of the new iPhone. All the iPhones will get iOS5, in one form or another and the iPhone 4 will get all the new software features bar siri (although I'm sure with a jailbreak that will be possible too)

Saying things like this make me hate Apple.

Re: iPhone5/iphone4s 7pm tonight

For most people it's a fancy all-in-one which is easy to use. Dunno what the fuss is about really. Car manufacturers have been doing the same thing since ever: own one, next generation comes along and your neighbour buys that, then yours gets old so you buy a newer one than your neighbours... round and round. But then I'm no techie so will wander off now to the Arcade...

It's comparing apples with pears. Back in the 70s access to these sorts of things was severely limited...there was no internet to shop online.

Spot on. This is still a major plus point for Apple compared with Android (see other comments on this thread), and a big vindication of Apple's strategy when they launched the original iPhone. I think the Jobs quote was something like 'we may not yet know much about making phones, but we do know a lot about making platforms'. He was right in a big way.

maybe not after ICS. it seems that google have cottoned on that fragmentation is a big issue (already a problem with device form factors, even without OS fragmentation) and will be forcing handset users to make the OS upgradable.

Which in turn is counter productive to their mantra of being 'open'
