I wanted to have a USA/Canada account and I still have a credit card from there. So I took my other email address and my Canadian credit card plus my parents home address et voilà!

So I switch now from my Spanish to Canadian one anytime I want.

Do you have relatives or friends whose address you can enter? iTunes seem not to make any check that the card belongs to a particular address.

I have a UK card, and I use it with my mum's address with no problem.

I suppose you could even choose a random stranger's address if you don't have one to use.

About "you could even choose a random stranger's address " or better the address of the credit card company but with your name

I did the same for an American account, and took great pleasure in using 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA 95014 as my address. Never had a problem so far...

Such a rule by Apple just highlights that their primary reason for existence is to ripoff customers with as much as they can get away with by implement regional pricing which is the only reason for insisting on a local credit card and address.

If anyone doubts this then simply download the same music in different locations and watch how some locations cost you at least double when the IT infrastructure is most likely identical for all. Indeed they probably host the entire setup in a low cost country and then charge according to which country has the most people addicted to their product.

Don't forget that licensing deals with the music corporations are negotiated on a largely per country basis, and also that the iTunes Store does not sell exclusively music (movies, TV shows, books and so on all require separate licensing agreements with the respective publishers and rights owners, again usually on a per country basis). I'm also 99% sure all their data centers are in the U.S.

I'm not saying your complaint about pricing is wrong, but there are a lot more factors to take into account. There's some relevant market data here - they've had to build some assumptions into it, but it's interesting reading nevertheless.
