Which WLAN modem router is for fiber optic connection?

As topic. I just received my Cablecom modem, but it is not a wireless one. I am thinking to buy one and set it up by myself, just wonder anyone here can advise what type I should buy. I never used fiber optic connection, beofre I only had ADSL one, guess they are different?

Thank you very much.

Re: Which WLAN modem router is for fiber optic connection?

What kind of connection do you have? 25, 50, 100 mbit?

If you have 25-50, a B/G router will be OK, the capability on that is around 30 m/bit in real life so you will be using most of it. Anyway, that kind of speed you will be only getting on torrents and not on web pages.

If you have 100 mbit, consider N router, that will give you more or less 100 mbit in real life, again only on the torrent...

If you have another PC wired to your router than you don't need N router unless you do sharing between computer and you need speed...But streaming can go well on b/g, for me it's enough.

Re: Which WLAN modem router is for fiber optic connection?

I don't think the connection sockets are any different, especially that you will connect a wireless router to your existing cablecom modem, or, just plug the wireless router to the wired router, this way you don't need to buy dedicated modem+router+wifi since you don't know if it will be compatible?

I have a 60 CHF Linksys WRT54-GL (B/G) connected on my cablecom modem on 50 mbit connection. I also have small pc connected to my TV to watch torrents, plugged into my router by wire. The download speed on the small PC is around 3-4 megabytes per second, on my laptop via WiFi I get 1.5-2 megabytes, so it's sufficient for me.
