I love my iPad 64 3G and I am not even interested to know about iPad 3. I'll wait for the 4-5 ones...

Re: iPad 3 to be launched March 7th?

Moving to Switzerland from US in a month. We are going to buy our daughter an IPAD. Besides price is there a reason to buy one in US vs Switzerland? For example does the wifi matter depending on area?

Re: iPad 3 to be launched March 7th?

Before buying ipad in US check if the warranty is valid here in Switzerland as well. My brother who bought his iphone 4s in US in jan went to apple geneva as the pone is not working properly. Apple Geneva acknowledged problem however could not replace or even take the handset for repair as the iphone 4s bought in US is in limited warranty and warranty is valid only in US, Australia and New Zealand. Apple US simply couldnt help and he has been asked to get the phone eplaced in US!!!!!after a marathon of 4 hours talks with all so called apple genius is Geneva who were even asked by apple US to replace the phone did not do so as their system did not allow. They also confirmed any iphone bought in US is not covered under warranty in Europe and vice versa. THEY are not sure if the same applies on other apple products and no one is aware of same. All this took place last friday.
So check with Apple US before buying ipad if it is under limited or worldwide warranty.
As far as i am aware wifi does not matter with area.

Price isn't a big factor: US entry level $499, CH 529 CHF. Not a huge difference. And then you have the right plug, although not a big deal, it is more convenient!

As per Apple Suisse bookings to start only at end of month for iPad3...
When I look this morning they say delivery between 19 and 21st of March. Just in time for my birthday at the end of the month

Looks like everyone is trying to access the store - I can't get on!

I have been through a similar ordeal, had got a 4s here in Zurich and gave it to my girl in India. A month later the display killed itself; Apple India refused to support, even though the warrenty sheet says that in case of support not available in the given country the device would have to be shipped to home location and shipping cost borne by the consumer. They just refused to help there.

Re: iPad 3 to be launched March 7th?

The 16gb wifi only Ipad in US is 500$ and in CH is around 580$ so not a big difference but enough to buy accesories . I paid for a CH plug 12chf. The warranty with Apple is international so no problems. I have never heard of a situation like in the previous post in Geneva. We have bought ipods and an ipad from US and it was never an issue in Zurich.
Also, no compatibility problems...so in the end...you decision to save some money...not a lot though

Re: iPad 3 to be launched March 7th?

I will add, too, that we had one of the nano ipods (can't remember which version) that was recalled and we just got it replaced through the recall even though we bought it in the US and returned it here. Although maybe a recall is a different beast. We bought our iPad 1 in the US back in 2010 and haven't had any problems. I don't even think about warranty issues when I buy something, just the optimist, or eager spender who thinks I'll just have to get a new one then!

The warranty with apple is not international and like you i had thought same as well till the iPhone 4s incident took place. Even though there is nothing mentioned on receipt when apple guys put the serial number i their system it clearly showed limited warranty. Whats more surprising even the apple staff in Geneva were not aware and initially told us iPhone 4s bought here in Swiss is covered under International warranty but had to take back their statement after they found it wasn't the case. As per apple the chip set in iPhone 4s made for US and Europe is different and their system doesn't allow exchange in other countries!!! We found it very strange but than that's how it is in end.
I feel its best to buy electronic equipment in your home country where you live for its far too easy to get it fixed or replaced and the price difference in apple products between US n Swiss is not much anyways.

I have read somewhere that the US and European 4G are different systems. Better double check before you buy in the states.

Re: iPad 3 to be launched March 7th?

Please do not communicate things that you have not checked before. Just google it and you will find answers. Of course that when one says worldwide it is also related to careers, the existence of an apple center bla bla bla and also the warranty is different according to the product...ipod, ipad...Check this link and look at what they offer in CH for example:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4311
That is why the text in the warranty is:
IMPORTANT RESTRICTION
Apple may restrict warranty service to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the Apple Product.

Re: iPad 3 to be launched March 7th?

I'm sorry if I was unclear in my post. I was referring to the Data Network, i.e. 3G or 4G or more correctly 4G LTE which is what is being used in Europe.

Swisscom doesn't even have 4G LTE, they are trialling it in a few very limited areas and have not set a date for when they expect national coverage.

My point was that there is a lot of confusion about these new protocols and the ISP compatibility of these systems, this is mostly true in North America, but also have impact in other regions.

A) I have not tried to communicate any thing that i have not checked BUT simply what i experienced personally last Friday.
B) Go for yourself to apple Geneva and check with them if iPhone 4s bought in US is covered under ANY sort of warranty in Suisse or Europe....
C) I have spoken for iPhone 4s in my earlier posts and simply said best to check warranty prior to buying.
D)So u proclaim by reading on net all about warranty while guys(Genius) working in apple store were not clear and simply offered to replace the phone initially but when their system refused, frantic calls were made and manager was called who checked with apple and apologized for wrong information and inability to replace the phone while acknowledging the phone to be defective.

Just wanted to share my experience with other EF members so that they can be aware and not enforce anything of any sort. The link you have posted is for iPhone bought in EEA and not US.

You are right when you say warranty is different according to the product...ipod, ipad..

do you buy the coverage for the 4G by the month or do you have a plan? I keep wondering if I need the 4G part...as I don't work so wouldn't need it during commute time, etc.

Re: iPad 3 to be launched March 7th?

1. Based on your experience you cannot simply say "the warranty is not worldwide".
2. I just called Apple Geneva...told them I have an Iphone bought from US with a broken display...do I have international warranty? They said yes...
3. I do not proclaim what I read on the net. The links were from Apple US when you travel to EU or Switzerland...
