The new series of "New Tricks" starts Monday, 18th August on BBC1 at 9pm. Wonderful advertising for it - zilch! Thanks Beeb.

Fargo (if you have not, you must....!)
I watched, and did quite enjoy, Fargo but it was way too long IMO, and the plot had more holes in it than the lump of Emmental cheese in my fridge. But it did encourage me to dig out the classic Coen Bros movie on which it's based, so I'm grateful to it for that. I have to say that it kicks the TV spin-off into touch. I'm told that there's to be another TV series, but with so many important characters killed off, I suppose it will have to become a sort of upmarket sitcom based on the adventures of the kooky cop, vacuous husband, precocious daughter and trusty, common sense dad as they battle a range of dastardly villains. Can't wait...

I haven't read through the thread recently, but my favourites are Breaking Bad, True Detective, The Killing (Danish version essential), House of Cards (both original UK and recent US versions are good), and The Wire. And I'm enjoying the current re-run of Edge of Darkness on the BBC. An old 1980s mini-series that remains superb.

"Our Zoo" on BBC 1, based on a true story of the founding of Chester Zoo. A little slow to get going, but has both the dramatic and comic elements for a good 6 part series.

Re: good TV series recomendations..... ?

Scott and Bailey is a good Manchester based female detective series.

I really like Reckless, Rush, Satisfaction - all can be downloaded.

Oh, and Hell's Ktchen has started on You tube again. Those poor people!!

Supposedly most of the US series shall be starting again this month.

Not forgetting - Downton!! I actually watched the Christmas Special again just to remember what was going on.

I shall watch "Our Zoo", but having read bad reviews etc. Och, well give it a try. If i don't like i can always stop.

Re: good TV series recomendations..... ?

Just started watching almost human with Karl urban from the Star Trek films, really enjoying it so far

Dominion was good if a bit short for a full season!

Under the dome also good, but beginning to feel its losing the plot a little. Hope it gets going again and doesn't nose dive like heroes and lost that both started really well.

I'm sure you know, but for those who don't, a new series of Downton Abbey starts next Sunday.
We've also recorded our Zoo, will have a look at it.

Just got through season 1 of Bobs Burgers. Very impressed!

Plots are slightly weak, but the dialogue is fast and witty, and the characters are very well developed and original but not outrageous.

For a bit of retro British comedy, I'm working my way through Black Books and Spaced at the moment. Missed them first time around, unfortunately, well worth it though.

The Fall (BBC2). Disturbing psychological crime series. Very good. Only one series so far though.

Re: good TV series recomendations..... ?

The Leftovers grew on me slowly, half in the season. I forced myself to watch it and now I'm pissed off that only 10 episodes were made for the first season

You start the season in "Lost mode" wondering what the hell happened to the departed, then you slowly realise that you care more for the characters (which is the intended objective of the show).

The season contains, in my opinion:
- The most cruel and sickening scene ever made on TV
- One of the most beautiful episodes in the history of TV
