Jessica Jones on Netflix is good - a bit bleak but good. David Tennant plays truly repellent horribly well.

When is XFiles? Used to love it. Have heard mixed reviews of the new episodes however...
Already started on Channel 5. Only 6 episodes.

The "House of Cards" trilogy - the BBC series on which the current House of Cards was loosely based on. It's also on Netflix.
Also "Foyle's War", if nobody else mentioned it.

Re: good TV series recomendations..... ?

"The Strain" has continued to meander from one plot line to the next with gay abandon in season 2. It is my "ironing" viewing so I'm not too fussed, and I'm a sucker for anything vampire related, so I can live with it - but I'm not going to around saying it is the best thing since sliced bread!!

For something cheesy "Almost Royal" has returned for a second season of cringeworthiness.

Deutschland 83 is the best drama I've seen on TV for a long time. It's completely my era, the music's great, and the the acting (particularly Alexander Edel) is brilliant.

We're all geared up for the feature length season finale on Sunday, so no spoilers please from those who saw it on German TV.

I have to say Fargo (series 2) is pretty spiffing good. I love the folksy Minnesota accent, black comedy and the fact that the writers don't fall into the obvious plotline traps. Big and small characters are killed off, and happy endings are elusive.

Supergirl shouldn't be touched with a very long pole with doggy poop on the end.

I'm a bit "egal" about "The Flash" - the episodes are drivel but the last 2min cliff hangers are really good. It means I have watched 3 episodes of it and I'm starting to edge towards "download the rest of season 1" instead of canning it!

I loved House of Cards and can't wait for the next series. It was supposed to start in February if I recall correctly. Meantime...to soothe my disappointment, maybe it's worth checking out the trilogy, had no idea about it...can't believe I didn't notice it on Netflix.

I quite like The Flash; I think it's better than Arrow, anyway.

Really enjoyed it as well.

Hard to say which I liked better the first season or the second. I will have to watch the first season again for a good comparison.

After Daredevil and Penny Dreadful it feels a bit "light".

Just got caught up with SyFy's The Expanse, and really like it. Dark, like the remade Battlestar Galactica, and multilayered story.

I liked them both, but series 2 is my favourite. Although Bookem Woodbine is no match for Billy Bob Thronton as the epitome of evil, the story is more believable. I also love all the late 70s details, the fashion, cars, technology etc..

Hinterland on netflix. I guess it's bbc1 - is actually filmed twice, once in English, once in Welsh. It's spare and desolate, but I liked it - another police drama.

For a lighter touch, the Australian "Miss Fisher's murder mysteries" switzerland has only series 1 (netflix), but if you watch it via smartflix, you can see series 2, maybe 3.

Not a new series, but for those who loved disaster prone Frank Spencer you can have another go at watching him as part of Sport Relief Night on 18th March on BBC1 from 7pm. Michael Crawford and Michelle Dotrice are reprising their roles as part of the night's entertainment.

For all the Breaking Bad fans out there....

Better Call Saul series 2 has just started on Netflix. If you liked BB, you'll like this spin-off.

I recommend Deutschland83, I watched it in French... Should be available dubbed somewhere. Hard to follow with the subtitles. Gripping scenario

Re: good TV series recomendations..... ?

Has anyone been watching the Dickensian series on BBC 1?

I only watched the first episode - was unconvinced about the bringing together so many characters from Dickens novels and how it was going to work.

As the series has run for many weeks now, just wondered if any of you have seen it and what you think of it?

We've watched it all (last episode tomorrow ) and have loved it!
I thought the same at first, that it could get a little weird and confusing with all the different characters, but it really works!
I think it makes it interesting if you have read some or all of the novels, but even if you have read none, it is a great series to watch, a bit like a soap set in Dickensian times.
The acting is superb in my opinion, I will be sad when it finishes.

I watched the first couple and didn't really get into it so I didn't bother with the rest. It was all a bit too messy and confusing for me.

BBC1 has just started showing an updated version of John Le Carré's "The Night Manager". Sounds unmissable.
