| | Re: good TV series recomendations..... ? | Quote: | | | | | have read the book at least 6 times since its publication in 1985.
Have also read all of margaret atwoods works.
Thought about making a comment on this thread after i watched the televised series a couple of weeks ago, but wasn't sure whether to...
It being one of my favourite books of all time, was worried about how others would view the the deviation from the original work - didn't want it to be denigrated within the usual hollywood b. S.
But, having now seen the entire series, can only highly recommend it as one of the top books to read and / or series to watch - especially now. The first couple of episodes take a bit of getting used to, but then it all begins to make sense.
Can really imagine that it could also be your sort of thing swisstree . | | | | | p.s. Attachment 125988

I am absolutely loving Better Call Saul on Netflix. Great and likeable characters. |

I have been enjoying 'my cat from hell', one episode first thing in the morning while I stroke the head of my well behaved angel dog.
I recommend it to all dog owners who's dogs occasionally piss them off.
'Better Things' is also very good, I love the lead |

| | Re: good TV series recomendations..... ? | Quote: | | | | | I completely agree. There's so much more to language than just taboo words. It frustrates me that writers think that by using the F-word or the C-word they can get a rise out of the viewer. For me, the rise is too easy. The beauty and severity of a taboo word, is when it's used sparingly. | | | | | I find the use of expletives enriches language and are by no means a tool of a lazy or controversial writer. Most people swear like troopers in real life and have done so for centuries.

We have too many Greek speaking neighbours for me to be seen calling that name in the garden.

When you hear expletives every other sentence, in my opinion, it desensitises it's purpose and is roll-your-eyes laziness.
I disagree that 'most' people 'swear like troopers'. Naturally, I can't speak for society as a whole, but out of my group of a friends, 'a few' swear like troopers and 'most' swear occasionally.

Final series of "Ripper Street" starts on BBC2 on 19th June. Only 6 episodes, but still worth watching.

Another Netflix specials if you're into stand-up comedy.. (if you're easily offended don't watch them).
