Utopia (Weird... Just weird) *New
I watched the first and found it equally fascinating and disturbing (the torture scene ), but forgot to tune in or record the rest. I'll try and torrent it.

I want to get hold of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror too, I missed the first series and the start of the second, so will torrent that too.

Re: good TV series recomendations..... ?

If you like documentaries, Ken Burns has recently done one on the Dust Bowl which I recently saw on PBS America. Coming from that area I grew up hearing about the terrible dust storms back in the 1930s, but this was very enlightening as to how and why things changed. A bit long at 4 hours plus (at least with the commercials), but I found it very interesting. It's also available on DVD.

I watched the first two epesodes of "Vikings" on project freetv today.
It relegates Game of thrones to a disney channel program,
Absolute and totally brilliant

All 3 original Danish seasons of The Killing
The Bridge (again Danish version)
Borgen (Danish version)
I agree. All great stuff, of those that have made it to France so far. Three cheers that undubbed versions have actually become quite common in Asterix's retrograde homeland. No wonder the French are so cr#p at foreign languages.

Not really. Vikings is a brilliant show, but to say it turns GoT into a disney channel program is false.

For one thing, there is a significant lack of bewbs and doggystyle in Vikings.

I like documentaries a lot.

Recently caught a Bill Bailey doc about the explorer Wallace which was quite a lot of fun.

Yes, they've been advertising that on the BBC I think, but haven't seen it. Must say I've never heard of Wallace so would be totally new info for me. Doubt I'll see it though, as hubby gets the TV in the evenings.

A nice one has bubbled up from the background hum of halfassed series.

Re: good TV series recomendations..... ?

Might have missed mention of them, but the most recent season of US TV brought Vegas (Dennis Quaid, Carrie-Anne Moss & Michael Chiklis in Mob run 60s Las Vegas) & Arrow (Urban Vigilante stuff loosely based on DC's Green Arrow character with guests such as John Barrowman & Colin Salmon with enjoyable choreographed fights).

Curb your enthusiasm is so good it could have been British

Also like Entourage - still waiting for the last series on Itunes.

Peep Show minus the last series is also very good.

French are native english speakers compared to Italians, for exactly the same reason i.e. content dubbing is a strong culprit of the monolingualism. Full disclosure: I'm italian.

Scandinavian TV is amazing, the above series are all excellent.
I recently enjoyed watching Lilyhammer, shot in Norway. Dialogue is 50/50 English and Norwegian. It stars Steven Van Zandt (from The Sopranos) in the part of a NY mobster who relocates to Norway in some kind of witness protection. It's a mixture of drama and comedy.

Other recent series:
- Utopia (UK - as mentioned above, weird, cannot be described)
- Black Mirror (UK)
- Orphan Black (BBC America)
- The Following (US)
- The Americans (US - Russian spied in deep US cover - set in the 80's)
- Hatufim (Israeli series, the inspiration for Homeland - more crude and psychological, amazing)
- Sherlock (BBC)
- Engrenages (French - This is called Spiral in the UK, a must-watch if you like the french cop genre)
- Braquo (Another cop show from France - think "The Shield" set in Paris)
- and of course Dexter and Breaking Bad, this summer will mark the last season for both
