I was a big fan of the original (and very disturbing at a young age) film that I watched as a kid in the 80's, and for me there has never been anything like it or that bettered it. Until now. The movie should ideally be watched first btw https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083791/
The scale and scope of this series is simply staggering when you think about the effort that must have gone into it. Rarely (I hate to say never, but...) have I seen a fantasy world created with such loving attention to detail, with such imagination... you can easily watch some scenes 3-4 times just to drink it all in. All of the weird and wonderful creatures and landscapes they have created are a genuine sight to behold. It feels eerily real.
And the puppetry... ahh, the glorious puppetry. The fact that this series is almost all live-action puppetry and actors in costume, combined with judiciously used and very well crafted CGI is what really makes it magical and brings it to life. I can hardly imagine the work that had to go into this, and after such a long break to the original movie the Henson Company have got it pretty much spot on. The story is amazing, the script and voice acting are amazing (for the most part at least, thanks to some great casting), it is full of humour (I love the Podlings, they are hilariously portrayed and there are so many good and touching scenes with them in it) and I have genuinely never seen anything like it. It is a labour of love where clearly no expense and effort was spared in recreating their vision.
This kind of benchmark quality is what happens when corporate suits do not interfere with the creative and production/directorial process and allow people to get on with implementing a vision as they see best.
I am about halfway through the season and so far can't recommend it highly enough. If it continues with this level of quality it will be the most memorable series of recent times for me.
Also out now and looking awesome: - Carnival Row https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0489974/
- The Boys https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1190634...1?ref_=nv_sr_1
Coming soon: - The Witcher https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5180504/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
So much good TV to binge on rainy days! | | | | |
Oh I loved the film. This is on my must-see list. Carnival Row... I watched the first one... was a little disappointed. Maybe I need to watch it again. Felt a bit style over substance and that pains me to admit!

Another good series is: "The Kominsky Method" with Michael Douglas and other seasoned actors/actresses (Jane Seymour for one). It is well written and entertaining!

It was before the "Friends" fever, but still..

That said, Paul Reiser hasn't done too well either (hopefully it is a fat suit and/or hair/makeup!)
Great acting/writing! This series is definitely worth the view |

Barry is pretty funny in a dark comedy way. Bill Hader, Stephen Root and Henry Winkler... Enjoying Into the Badlands; post apocalyptic SciFi. Season 2 of Jack Ryan is out now so will be checking that out.

If anyone is a kid of the 80s, I highly recommend
Cobra Kai
which just popped up on Netflix. So many Easter eggs, and even without the nostalgia, it's still worth watching.
10/10, would watch again, patiently awaiting season 3

I'm watching Industry on BBC2, drama about graduates in a City bank. We're also revisiting things like the original UK version of Utopia (but don't fancy the American remake). For comedy I recently watched the first 2 series of Count Arthur Strong on Amazon Prime, Arthur is so eccentric he has me in fits. Can't wait for series 3 to become available. I'd like to watch Les Revenants again but I think it's on Netflix, shame they never did the third series as it was coming together well (saw the original French movie it was based in and it explained nothing ) Like Utopia, it was one of those dramas that was so baffling you got addicted to it.
