Swiss based satelite internet service

Hi all,

I saw the thread that gave links to UK companies offering satalite broadband, but have not run across a company in Switzerland offering the same service. Seems a bit strange considering the number of chalets up in the mountains here.

My neighbors son lives in a chalet that doesn't have phone or cable lines. He has sat. TV but that company doesn't offer broadband. He's called Swisscom and was told they do not offer satelite broadband.

Does anyone know of a Swiss based service or has anyone used one of the UK services here in Switzerland ?

Thanks

Re: Swiss based satelite internet service

SKYdsl is not based in CH, but DE. We use it in rural Spain. You get up to 10Mb down and it is the best that we can get outside of Barcelona for the moment. You can check them out at www.skydsl.eu

Have to say, their customer service sucks, but the signal was ok when we finally got it running. But you might want to do some research, as I have heard some complaints of overcapacity on their network. Not a problem for us, so far.

He's tried the dongles with limited success and his cell service is spotty. Unfortunately no phone line to the place to do any uploading

Re: Swiss based satelite internet service

Actually Swisscom does offer SAT Internet service. I believe they do this as part of their legal obligation to provide basic Internet service to the whole of Switzerland (Grundversorgung). Check this page:http://www.swisscom.ch/res/beratung-...?languageId=en

Price is apparently 34.- per month and 195.- to have the system installed.
