Cablecom WiFi Router: how to block IP Address?

I have a small server at home, and I have a range of 10 ports forwarded to it on my Cablecom Thomson wifi routers firewall. Normally I haven't had any problems, but recently I've had some hack attempts to break in, and logged the source IP address. I would like to have a list of IP addresses in the Thomson firewall to blacklist, but no such thing exists in the router.

On my Linux server, I tried doing iptables:

Quote:
iptables -A INPUT -s <hackers ip address> -j DROP
...but it doesn't seem to work. I think because I'm on the same subnet as the Thomson router. If I could switch to a different subnet, I beleive it would work. However, then I can't do port-forwarding from the Thomson, because it only allows port-forwarding in the same subnet as the router...same with DMZ, it can only be in same subnet

The Thomson router isn't Linux, or at least I can't telnet/SSH to it, so I can't do any kind of scripting on it. Does anyone here have a Cablecom Thomson router with a Linux server behind it, and manages to use iptables, or some other kind of firewall?

Oh, wait, if I put my server in the DMZ, then the Thomson firewall rules don't apply then, and the iptables/firewall/etc on my server will be used. Did I just answer my own question?

Curious, are you restricting access of your server pretty tightly, say your equipment only or maybe only a few people? If that's the case perhaps MAC filtering on the router could be used.

Blacklisting IPs is going to not be a good solution since they can change all the time. You could allow IP ranges perhaps if you know the only people accessing originate from a certain ISP but that of course doesn't block hackers in from that or those ISPs.
