Swisscom auto connect to wlan, sharp business practice

When I got my latest phone the guy in the swisscom shop said the sim was old and he'd give me a new one. I didn't think anything of it and was impressed that the number was transferred to the new sim in about 2 minutes.

However what I've found out since is that the new sims automatically connect to the swisscom WLAN network called MOBILE EAPSIM. Theres no username/password prompt to warn you and initially I didn't even realise the phone was hopping onto it. Previously my WLAN access was included in my package however according to this

http://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/digital/...story/18874269

the MOBILE EAPSIM wlan usage comes off your monthly data allowance.

I hesitate to call it a scam as effectively they are supplying you only what you asked for ie Nmb/month of data but my phone connects to various free wifi networks around Zürich and seeing it is on Wifi I usually take the opportunity to use a more data intensive app then find out I was on the Swisscom lan instead of a free one and thus rogered again. So not a scam but certainly sharp business practice to be aware of.

Why oh why did I renew with swisscom, I hate them, I got warned not to but I did it anyway, all I remember is checking the swisscom/sunrise/orange packages then it all goes blurry and I was walking out of the swisscom shop.

They won't get me a <counts on fingers> fourth time!

Still, it's the principal of a default opt-in policy that's the problem. I still don't entirely understand why they're so big. Branding and all that, but they're by far the most expensive, the phone subsidies are the lowest (in general) and their technical service is still the worst I've ever seen!

I'm just waiting for my contract to expire myself - now to find an proper data provider so I can go sip only.
