Open Box UK TV

Hi,

Just got an unusual email as shown below. Has anybody had any experience with this? TBH, my gut feeling is that it just sounds too good to be true.

QUOTE:
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our company, Open Box, as a close friend or colleague who has used our services has referred your name.

We specialise in supplying UK TV in France and Switzerland to ex-pats. There are 700 hundred channels included in the package we offer; far too many to list but the following are some that may be of interest to you.

Movie Channels
38 in total including all Sky movie channels plus one Sky Box Office channel at no extra charge.

Sport Channels
All sky sport channels included, plus two Setanta channels, four ESPN channels, all Euro Sport channels, Sky Pay per View sport channel and MUTV, Chelsea, and Liverpool channels at no extra charge.

Entertainment
Sky 1-4 plus Discovery, National Geographic, History, Yesterday, Dave and many more at no extra charge.

Kids Channels
All Sky children's channels included, plus BBC and ITV at no extra charge.

UK Domestic
All BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 at no extra charge.

To receive all the above you will require one set up box at a cost of 180 GBP and an annual subscription of 450 GBP per year. Many of our customers agree this is a fantastic package and costs much less than in the UK 50% less! A small taste of home for a small price!!!

Re: Open Box UK TV

It's not that good to be true - 630 sovs. for the first year.

There are other better priced alternatives, maybe not quite so many channels, but how many can anyone watch at once?

I reckon they send you one of these so you can keep putting money in for them.

I googled Open Box, and can't find anything that relates to your e-mail quote.

Smells a bit scammy to me.

I never trust friend referral e-mails, and offers written in italics - but it could be genuine(?).

I should add that this was at the bottom of their email:

You can make this even cheaper by forwarding this email onto as many UK people as you know here in France or Switzerland. Once ten of your family, friends and colleagues have signed up, we will refund the cost of your box! Refer another ten who subsequently sign up and we will refund the cost of your first year’s subscription, making your whole year’s viewing free of charge!

The italics was done by me, to highlight the quoted text.

I googled them as well, and nothing much came up??? Hence the reason I posted here. No doubt this thread will now come up on google.

Have they mentioned to you which friend of yours has referred your name and you can check with your friend or colleague if its genuine.

They didn't mention anyone by name.

I have decided to stay well clear.

This brings a few mentions - doesn't sound great though:

Re: Open Box UK TV

If you get everything except the sports package, which is what we have, you'll pay 486 a year so not really much savings. Sky Sports and the other pay to view sports channels never cover anything I'd want to watch anyway so no reason to add that package even if it is a bit cheaper.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me. If they're asking you to get your family and friends to sign up, why are they sending you an e-mail and not someone you know? Think they've gotten hold of a few mailing lists and are hoping for some gulible people to snap up the offer.

A pyramid scheme. Stay clear. What's the originator email address?

https://satandcable.com/content/open...llite-receiver

I found this from google, the box itself is only 70.
We have a similar one, not this make but it provided a reasonable range of channels; all the free-to-air ones, plus Sky news from the Astra 28 satellite.
Cost us about 150chf, plus the cost of a dish and fitting that to the roof. There are other systems around if you really want the other Sky channels, pretty sure there are some threads on here about them.

Having said that, this e-mail sounds very suspicious and I wouldn't trust it unless I knew who had 'referred' me to them. That bit of phrasing is odd in itself!

Re: Open Box UK TV

m considering a samsung lcd hdtv from bestbuy. apparently, it is 999 new but they have 3 of them, open box, for 899. all three of them look perfectly fine and has all components except for the manual.

any input on this? anything that i should be worried about in regards to the open items?

thank you!
