Cable TV - what kind of receiver?

Could anyone tell me what's needed to receive cable TV in Switzerland? Obviously to sign up with a provider, but here in Germany I have a Humax (PR-Fox C) receiver. - does anyone know if this would be the same in Switzerland? I'm wondering whether I should bring it with me.
Thanks.

Re: Cable TV - what kind of receiver?

The answer to that really depends on where you choose to live, as it varies depending on the provider. If you're in a Cablecom town, they provide the box and you can't use any other as it's encrypted DVB-C (they have a choice of models, including CI+ card and recording boxes). In some places in the French speaking part of Switzerland, notably Lausanne and areas around it, the signal is DVB-T (yes, they found a way to broadcast it over cable) so you can use any box you want and the TV should work fine too. In those areas, the Cablecom subscription is possible as an option.

Re: Cable TV - what kind of receiver?

If your TV or Cable Box has a CI+ slot, then you can buy a DigiCard from Cablecom (100CHF) and use it with that. Your box doesn't have a CI+ slot, so no, you can't use it with Cablecom.

As advised above, your best bet is to wait until you move into your new apartment and see what service providers are in your area.
