FTP qustion for the tech savvy....

is it possible to have photo thumnails shown as a preview instead of a standard windows icon?

my photos on FTP only show up as an icon... which is rather annoying

using windows explorer to view the FTP folder BTW.

If you are using Windows Explorer to view any folder, the 'View' menu will change icons etc. Otherwise you will need to tell us your FTP client...

Aye, it's nothing to do with FTP by the sound of it, but just the Windows Explorer settings.

Re: FTP qustion for the tech savvy....

You can display thumbnails in some FTP clients, but they need to download each file first in order to generate the thumbnail.

AFAIK, there's no way to view remote directory contents as a thumbnail without downloading them first.

thats what i was afraid of.

EDIT: changed my search terms on google using image instead of photo and came up with the same result - its not possible over FTP because the thumbnail is secondary image which over FTP is not possible... arse!

OK, so in fact you're _not_ using Windows explorer, you're using Internet Explorer, right? If you had an FTP drive mapped into Windows you'd just see it as a normal drive, but it sounds like you're just using the FTP:// protocol in IE. Try a different web browser, perhaps.

Re: FTP qustion for the tech savvy....

well ie asks if i want to use windows exploer to view the folders, thats what i am using.

having had a deep dig into some tech articles reveals the results would be the same regardless of browser as for a preview there needs to be a download
