unlocking SIM

Hello EF

I bought a Samsung cellphone at Migros. The phone is locked and I am wondering if I can unlock it so I can use it with the nonswiss SIM-card as well? Where and how could I do that?

Thanks
Merog

Re: unlicking SIM

Are you sure that it has a SIM-Lock? I thought that most of the Android models were not SIM-Locked because Android is an open system...

1) Android has nothing to do with "sim locking".
2) Although Android is given free by google, the operators often made their own firmware/rom so it's "based on android" rather than being pure android.

3) The OP should ask those unlocking question in a specific forum, not here...
Would be faster for him! Especially that the model number is not even given...

Re: unlocking SIM

People really still get phones that are simlocked in 2016? that's so 2000... Better getting a second hand smartphone really.

Re: unlocking SIM

I was surprised to see this also, though the original posts were from 2012. Not sure why the commenter a couple of posts back dredged it up, really.

But on another note, yes. Basically every provider in the US sells theirs SIM locked, you have to either buy one used which has previously been unlocked or work with your provider to get it unlocked. I just had mine unlocked today, in anticipation of a trip I will be undertaking soon.
