Can access tv without subscription?

Can you watch tv for free without paying for a monthly subscription? I am just talking about the normal local (Geneva) Swiss tv channels, no cable or overseas channels.

Can I just plug in a tv to watch? Or does something need to be activated first?

Thanks.

Re: Can access tv without subscription?

You have to buy a TV license, which is not cheap!

Swiss TV license bills ...ugh!

Re: Can access tv without subscription?

Its not compulsory to have a subscription, though liscense is needed.
As long as the Digital TV supports DVB (common for the latest tvs) plug-in the TV connection to the receiver socket (should be available) and tune for channels.
Thanks

Re: Can access tv without subscription?

You can pick up Swiss SF programs with just an areal antenna. Get a good one tho, either an "active" one that has an amplifier built in, or an outdoor one that goes on the roof. You should be able to get either one for under 50 CHF.

To tune your DVB-T enabled TV, read more info here:http://www.broadcast.ch/data_program_dvbt.aspx

You can watch local and international TV for free on your smartphone and on your computer. I've used wilmaa.com and teleboy.ch. This is legal as long as you pay your (huge) Billag fees. Picture quality isn't great (but good enough fro me enjoy all the Euro 2012 matches with a Beamer ).

As long as you have car, computer, you have to pay the BILAG fee.
