Sony vaio "repair screen" its worth?

Hi guys i have a problem with my sony vaio.
The screen dont light up,its dark and only when i put light on it i can see.
When i connect it to my tv with hdmi i can see everything ok.
Where i can check if it can be fixed?
Or maybe have a experience with same problem

Re: Sony vaio "repair screen" its worth?

Search Ebay / Ricardo for a replacement screen. Buying from Sony might not be worth it. Sounds like an inverter problem ( did the lappy suffer a fall ? ).

Take it to Germany and get it repaired, it won't be expensive, less than €100.

Alternatively, sell it off on as-is condition. Someone might find a need for it as a eg media player to their 55 inch HDMI capable LCD TV.

Re: Sony vaio "repair screen" its worth?

Isn't it still under warranty? If it's less than 2 y.o, most likely it is. I actually bought one Vaio here but didn't deal with after sale services yet. In Ireland, however, it was exemplary. I thought my warranty was 1 year but it looks like it was 2 even though they never explicitly mentioned it. But since they agreed to service it later than 1 year after the purchase, I take it's actually 2 years. So they sent a courier to my work to collect it and then, 10 days later, to return to the same place. All for free.

Most probably a loose connection to or from the LCD inverter board. This board provides the high-voltage needed to light the lamps that make the screen bright.

The wires go from the main board via one of the hinges to the screen so they get moved every time the screen is open and shut.

Try opening and closing the screen several times in succession (but don't close it all the way and thus shut off the power).

If the screen goes bright at any time when you do this, it's probably a loose connection.

I would open it but its not so easy. the cover its not simple on this one
