I have had one since Saturday morning, it's very fast with apps however I am having issues as a phone.........Have spoken to Swisscom at length 3 days running, bad sound, poor reception & problems with wifi.

Connected to 3g it's very fast, however it keeps switching to 2g far more than my old 3gs
Agreed, 3G reception is considerably worse than on the 4S. I used to have 3G reception all over the upper floor of our house. Now I only get it in one room and only as long as the phone sits on the table :-/

Voice quality etc. is very good on mine, though. WiFi also works ok, but is a tad slower than on the 4S.

Humorously enough, the first word of the day today on urbandictionary.com was:

What do you mean? When you choose a pre-paid package, just opt for a nano SIM, it's right there on the website. I ordered one myself because I needed a non-Swisscom SIM to unlock my Swisscom iPhone 5.

Re: iPhone 5 thread

Black or white, that is the question I'm close to clicking the order button, but can't decide. The 3GS white was perfect because it had a white back, but black screen bezel. When you have a white screen bezel (e.g. 4, 4s and 5) it makes the screen look smaller, and you also notice the unseemly black borders on movies and older apps.

Any word on when Orange ones should be delivered? I just got a confirmation saying "Thank you for your order. It will be delivered to you as soon as possible." via email and a "within the next few days" via txt.
To me, "a few days" is like one or two, I was expecting it this week, where is my phone orange? Has it been sent?

And they sent me another email suggesting I should order one right now, so I don't have to wait.....

Get a white one - the black ones look like a** after a couple of weeks.

I would whack a full body invisibleshield on it, which is the same stuff used to cover helicopter blades

Yes you can, you can order it through the website, just make sure you top up your credit with CHF 20 within 24 hours. I received mine in a few days. Now I am just waiting for the phone to arrive

Does anyone know if the Apple Store in Bahnhofstrasse has iPhone 5's in stock currently?

Just received an unsolicited email from them:

"Your order is still pending. It will be delivered to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience."

I placed the order a couple of weeks ago, and wasn't really expecting it by now in any case, given previous experience of Orange.

Are those things any good? I mean, I'm sure they do a good job protecting the phone, but don't they cut down the sharpness of the retina screen?

Personally i wouldn't bother with something on the screen these days. They're a pain to put on right without getting dust in there, and quite frankly the glass on the iPhone is so scratch resistant there's little need for them (just don't keep your phone in the same pocket as your keys)

I use this on my 4S as it really does make the phone easier to hold securely, protects the rear side, and also due to beveled edges that protrude out from the screen side you have far less chance of screen breakage should you drop the phone, as the beveled edges go a long way to preventing direct contact with the screen in a fall scenario.

I imaging there will be lots of something similar for the iPhone 5 in due course.

I beg to differ - the screen scratches real easily. Metal won't scratch it, but small dust particles will. Most people scratch theirs while wiping it off with a cloth that's inevitably covered in dust particles. Those are usually small micro-scratches that are only visible while viewing in direct light - but they will definitely hurt the resale value of the phone.

I personally use these screen protectors:

made of glass, won't smudge or smear and are extremely easy to apply.

Maybe, but after 2-3 years (which is typically how long I hold on to my phones) when the resale value of the phone is practically zero anyway I think it matters little.

I know what your going to say, given the amount of second hand out of date iPhones going for around 400 chufs, but in all honesty anybody paying that amount for an old phone seriously needs the assistance of a shrink IMO.

I agree, but these people keep financing my gadget-addiction :-)

Anyway, let's put it this way then: if you're planning on selling your phone within a year or so, when your contract's up for renewal again, it's probably better to put a screen protector on it. And in case of the iPhone 5, also a full-body silicone cover.
