Wow, thats even more stupid than I thought
I assumed the time slot was to have someone walk you through the set up, migration etc.. not a time slot to stand in a queue. I think I'll wait until a time convenient to myself... thats how standard retail works.
As far as I can tell it's so you can be sure there's one available when you turn up, which still isn't guaranteed to be the case if you just go on spec. Personally I found it very convenient but I can see how it might not suit everyone. Mind you, I was able to change the day as well as the time, so that helped.

Re: iPhone 5 thread

How does it work to reserve one in a store? I tried to reserve one a few days ago and it said that I would receive an email that night if there's one available to pick up the next day. Does that mean I need to fill out the reservation form each day until I get one?

Got the case today. Excelent solution! They also give you two front protections and a back one...and not the cheap style. Good stuff for the price.

Wow, I wish I had known that. I filled out the reserve form once and then just waited around. Seems a bit absurd to have to try again each day. Has anyone else gotten a phone this way (reserving online to pick up at the Apple store)? Any idea how many tries it takes? I assume it's a first-come first-serve system, so I filled out the form right at 9AM today, hopefully that works.

Reserved on Thursday 11th of October around 10 AM. Got an e-mail in the evening, and I picked it up the next day around 6 PM. So yes, it is possible. It all depends on the size and colour I guess.

Yep, I did this a couple of weeks ago. Had one on order from Orange but got bored of waiting. I filled in the form and got an appointment for the next day. Picked it up and then called Orange with the new phone on the way home to cancel the order

I was lucky in that I was able to reserve one on the first try. Guess it's just a question of how quickly they're getting stock in. Mine was a black 32 GB, don't know what difference that would make if any.

Re: iPhone 5 thread

waiting since the 22nd of Sept., no news about my phone...and customer service doesn't have a clue where my mobile should be delivered...friends ordered it from them later than me and got it already...I might go to Apple in Bahnhofstrasse to see if they take a reservation so I can cancel my order from Orange...

Thanks for the info everyone. Seems like the Zurich store is able to do 24 hour turn-arounds on the reservation requests. Today was my third try in attempting a reservation at the Geneva store for a black 32 gig. Hopefully I'll get it one of these days!

Re: iPhone 5 thread

Just got another text from Orange saying my order is still pending and that it will be delivered ASAP, but no dates or timescale mentioned.

If I could pick one up in Luzern I might, but I'm not going all the way to Zurich.

I received an email telling me that they apologies for the delay blaming Apple and that I have to pay the invoice even though I didn't receive the mobile as it's considered as any online purchase ... Do they know at orange that other company deliver goods even before ur card get charged?

Re: iPhone 5 thread

I have just gone to Interdiscount and they still have no clue of when they will get the iphone 5 32 GB. As anyone received it in Switzerland?
(sorry if it's a repeated question, I admit I didn't go through this 11 pages thread)

People have had the most success by reserving it online from the Apple store for in-store pickup the following day. It seems that the Zurich store gets shipments more often though, as I've filled out the form to reserve one from the Geneva store every day for a week and have yet to hear back.

Re: iPhone 5 thread

I was at Gatwick on the weekend and wanted to check whether I could buy an iPhone 5 at a duty-free price.

Unfortunately not.

The guy at the shop said that Apple will only allow the retailer to sell the phone at the same price as outside of the duty-free area. But the guy said that they will probably throw in a few goodies to make the deal sweeter for their customers, e.g. free car-charger, etc.

Ordered online from Apple Online Store on the 16th October. It's been 2 weeks and 2 days, still no updates. Wondering if I should just cancel it and reserve one tomorrow to collect on Saturday.

While this indeed could be seen as Orange passing the buck, there are a couple of reasons why this could be true.

1. Sharp, who are the manufacturers of the LCD panel in the iPhone 5 have been having difficulties getting the yields up. The new design, which integrates the touch sensors directly into the LCD, is apparently proving to be somewhat troublesome to mass produce.

2. One of the battery suppliers has also been having problems with yields, with up to 70% of batteries failing to meet the required specifications.

These problems were reported about a month prior to release, which means that even if the problems are now rectified, Apple would have had significantly less phones at launch then they had planned for. Bascially what's happening now is the knock on effect from that.

Still, it's always been a waiting game with every new incarnation of the iPhone.

There is no guarantee that there will be any available for reservation (you reserve and wait for the lucky email), your best bet is to have as many orders open in parallel and then cancel once one of them comes through

All this effort for a mediocre phone?
