Can I use my American TV in Zurich?

Hello,

I am moving in October and my husband and I are wondering if it is sensible to bring our tv from the USA given the NTSC/ PAL difference in the regions. With digital tv and internet streaming directly thrugh the tv, does ntsc/pal still matter? Has anyone successfully made a tv from the USA work in Switzerland? We are willing to invest in a bulky converter for the electricity.

Also what are the options for getting English speaking channels in Switzerland?

Thank you!

Re: Can I use my American tv in Zurich?

Welcome to the forum.

Anybody actually brought US TV (NTSC) and did it work in CH (PAL) ?

Using a US TV in Switzerland

Does US flat screen work in Switzerland?

Converting PAL signals to NTSC

Using Samsung LCD TV from US in Switzerland

US PS3 in CH?

Multi-system TV?

Gist of it: Frequency, tuner, voltage are the issues. In CH, we use PAL, so a US multi-system TV ( PAL included ) will work.

If using the HDMI digital port, there are no issues to connect to a digital device ( PC, laptop etc. )

Provided the TV:

It has a multivoltage capability ( consult the manual ) 60Hz and 220-220V in CH

It has a plug that has a converter to CH ( a few CHFs to get an adapter here )

English channels:

They have an expat package but no means the only provider in CH.

There is also the Sat and Slingbox option.

When searched, using the Google powered option, with keywords such as NTSC, Slingbox, Swisscom, Cablecom etc. you will find more threads .. lots of food for thought.

Didn't think that MPEG-2/4 was either PAL (I/II), SECAM or NTSC dependent. Wasn't this only for the old analogue CRT set's where you had to have either the one or the other (or multi-standard) TV?
