Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

was anyone able to get the qoqa deal? i couldn't pass the second step: i added 1 to the shopping cart, but 'next' button complained that none is available.

i guess, i have to console myself by saying 8GBs were too small anyway

Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

In case anyone was wondering. Some stores still have some samsung 8.9s left at CHF222 . They had 5 left last night in M parc in Basel (I took 2 for my family). They are not on the shop floor so you have to ask.
I also enquired in Zugerland last week, they told me they had none but were expecting some more soon.

Zugerland had two today, scooped one up. Thanks for the heads up guys. I have a Asus Slider SL101 and I really love it but this 8.9" is perfect in size and weight, what a perfect little machine. I just updated it to ICS using XDA and it runs much better then Honeycomb. Fast, good battery, I ordered the keyboard case from Samsung as well, can't wait for that. Interdiscount is selling them for 250 CHF if any of you can't find one from Migros.

Aren't tablets the best companion, well except for the iPads, not a fan. I have never seen such a closed system before. These Android tablets though are wonderful, I mean who makes a system without a filemanager why couldn't Apple just use OSX and call it day. Anyway thanks for the heads up guys, you made my day. I to was waiting for the Nexus 7 but this little fellow is more than just an alternative choice. Oh, I found the best program today called Podkicker, if you're into Podcast this is a must.

Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

First of all we talk about 2 different products...Secondly...the numbers on deindeal say that the price of a 16gb is 549 chf which is not true...you can find it for 360 online...it is still a good deal but they use a high number to make you think that it is a huge deal.

The one from Melectronics is 222 and the cheapest, last time I checked, is 430 so it is really a good deal...

Got myself a new Nexus with 32 Gb for $249.
IMO there is no tablet that can match this value for money.

Well yes definitely I know we are talking about separate products, and perhaps specs wise, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi is better endowed than the Deindeal Galaxy Tab 2 Wifi 7-inch, but you cannot undermine the fact that the latter is a newer generation product as compared to the former.

Additionally today's news of Jelly Bean on Galaxy Tab 2 Wifi 7-inch on AndroidCentral (source) should also give a bit of competition to your claim that the Migros deal is the best. As a matter of fact, I went for the Migros deal too, at the time it came out first, and even upgraded to 4.0 like so many others on this forum... but now I definitely feel that I should have waited for the Nexus 7 or perhaps this Deindeal offer...

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is way better than a Nexus 7; I've got both (and have a lot of experience of all current tablets in my job). The Galaxy may be a bit behind in the OS (still running 3.2), but it's a much more practical tablet - especially for ebooks.

In fact, the Tab 8.9 is simply the best tablet I've ever come across: the size (and weight and feel) hits the sweet spot perfectly. I got one in the previous Migros offer and may pick up another since I couldn't bear to be without one.

Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

^ this matches my feelings. I've been through 10" and 7" and I'm looking at 222 like it's something I want to do.

Right now, the 10" tablets in my house are sat doing nothing - my boy has his Galaxy Tab 7" for the car (with PAYG SIM, something every 2-year-old needs!). I even gave away a 10" tablet last week to my nephew.

I have a 7" tablet that only serves to connect to TVs via HDMI when I am on holiday. USB host mode is on it so it's perfect.....64Gb of storage

But the 8.9" is constantly with me and constantly in use. I'm doing what I can to not order another one....!

There's really no need to be obsessed with the latest version of Android. The Tab 8.9 works perfectly well with 3.2. Maybe one day Samsung will update European users to Android 4 (like they did in the US), but it doesn't bother me either way - I still pick up the 8.9 in preference to the Nexus 7 because it gives a better overall experience.

There's also a risk in being on the bleeding edge: as any Kobo user with a Nexus 7 who hasn't been able to read their books for the last week will testify...

Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

I have to say I tried to put JB on mine (from ICS) and it would not turn on wireless and I had to go back to my nandroid backup.

ICS is lovely on it. Touchwiz is actually OK.

appreciate your sentiments, but you speak for yourself... you should sideload and try Ice Cream Sandwich on your favourite Galaxy Tab 8.9 and see the difference for yourself... you would know what you have been missing with just Honeycomb and perhaps get an idea of where this obsession stems from...

I am a bit lost with your comment on the Nexus 7 books issue? something I am not aware of perhaps, but I honestly haven't heard of any issues with book reading apps on the Nexus 7...

I'd personally prefer bleeding edge any day over outdated tech... whether I can always afford it always, is a different question altogether...

I know about sideloading and have tried ICS on one of our test 8.9s. I may update mine if Samsung never around to it, but 3.2 satisfies my use cases for a tablet. It's the hardware (really the size) that I like about the 8.9 Tab.

The problem with Kobo is that (getting slightly technical...) 4.2 changed the format of the IMSI returned through the Android library call. Kobo was probably crashing with a null pointer exception.

http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39911

This could affect any app which wants to identify the device for DRM purposes (we make streaming media apps and hit the same problem - although we solved it in a couple of hours rather than a week).

Re: Samsung galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi - Migros - CHF 222

not directly related to the migros offer, but mediamarkt has a very close offer to deindeal for the 7 inch Tab 2: http://shop.mediamarkt.ch/de/compute...0/idpjqqwmtboy

in my experience, mediamarkt used to be one of the most expensive sellers in CH for electronics, but in the last year, they started to have very good deals, which are similar to interdiscounts'. interdiscount was also too expensive some time back, but then it started having nice deals with prices that match microspot.ch, maybe they are related. and when i say deal, prices that can compete with digitec.ch's, which were generally the lowest in CH. and Fust is also making efforts to match prices sometimes to catch up (or, rather down) with others. i guess, it's not always that all companies in CH charge at very high similar prices, but at times a cheaper selling company would affect the rest of the market...

then again, although CH prices for electronics are low compared to a lot of places, possibly due to lower taxes, while for some products (like google nexus) this does not hold that much.
